If the dragons don't kill you, the deadlines will.

At the Tower of Jackdaw and Spittlelick, magic isn't wild or romantic. It's regulated, audited, and buried under paperwork.

Ivy Armstride is a junior mage trying to survive a workplace where spells misfire, mentors are eccentric at best, and magical disasters are quietly filed away. Her job is to keep things running smoothly—not to ask questions.

But when a strange tree appears in the Tower's foyer, dragons start circling overhead, and a charming client requests the impossible, Ivy is forced to choose between following the rules that hold the system together . . . or confronting what those rules are really protecting.

Modern Magic is a witty, character-driven urban fantasy that blends sharp satire with genuine heart.

For readers who enjoy fantasy in the vein of Terry Pratchett, Ben Aaronovitch, and Jasper Fforde.

I hugely enjoyed this audiobook. The story is really engaging: it starts as quite a slow burn and builds up to a thrilling ending, with lots of fun episodes along the way. The characters are memorable and the magic is great. The writing is witty and very high quality: consistently fluent and polished. And the narrator brings the story to life extremely vividly. Her voice is full of character and is a perfect fit. The basic premise is that it’s a magical fantasy but one set in a modern world of urban living, bureaucracy and corporate greed; it’s a really interesting combination and very effectively written. It looks like there are more to follow in the series and I’m looking forward to them!

Really enjoyable with a brilliant ending
