The pathfinder, Shea, has chosen to make a place for herself among her former captors, leaving behind her people and the life she once knew. However, not all welcome this outsider in their midst. Shea will find that surviving alone in the wilderness is child’s play next to navigating the politics that come with her new position. Especially when it becomes evident that there are those out for her blood.
As a new danger looms on the horizon, Shea and her warlord will need all the allies they can find. Because something is stirring in the barren lands from which all beasts are born. Something old and not seen since the last cataclysm.
Can Shea protect her people from this new threat or will it be the dangers from within her own inner circle that destroy her?

I absolutely lived this book. It had the same quirky heroine as the first book, more exciting adventures, new monsters, and more assinstion attempts. I can't wait to listen to the third book in the series to find out what happens next.

Shea is trying to find her way in her new life with Fallon and the Trateri; and she gets a few life lessons to help her grow up.
But things are getting stranger with the Mist and Golden Eagles coming farther south than they ever have before. When Shea’s cousin brings a message from the Pathfinders asking her to come home, Fallon decides to take them up on their offer.
But travel into the Highlands with horses is no picnic. And, of course, Fallon is still dealing with scheming clan heads, while Shea is dealing with assassins and a lethal general.
Well, Rider’s voice is more appropriate for the series than Lewis, but she still had multiple mispronunciations throughout the audio that drove me nuts. I checked multiple sources to be sure, but S-h-e-a is pronounced Shay, NOT Shay-a.
