Summary

A dysfunctional family reunites for the Christmas holiday from hell in this rediscovered festive classic with fangs for fans of Barbara Pym, Elizabeth Taylor, Dodie Smith, Nancy Mitford and Stella Gibbons. 

The fire is on, sherry poured, presents wrapped, and claws are being sharpened. In a seaside cottage perched on a cliff, one family reunites for Christmas. Wonderful

Absolutely delicious prose, read beautifully. For once, comparisons to Barbara Pym are justifiable - though Farrell has a style all of her own, both sly and direct by turns, there are elements of Pym at her sharpest, Ivy Compton Burnett (but less snobbish), and Celia Fremlin (without the murders). I really hope more are recorded. I’m off to find other novels by Farrell!
