Enjoyed the story and narration. A little annoying that Nan Washburn became Nan Buchanan for half the book but went back to being Washburn at the end. But overall I enjoyed the story and narration and can’t wait for the next instalment

As always, thoroughly enjoyable and believable story told through sympathetic characters and an obvious love for the landscape

What copper, including his colleagues and his superiors would not go all out to arrest a thug who punched that officer in front of witnesses at a primary school gate and then escaped? Hirsch and his sarge apparently. There's not a police officer in the world who does not understand that to let such an assault slip away without a hardline response undermines their authority and might (and in this book does) lead to far worse consequences. Not one in the world, unless, apparently, they are stationed in South Australia. It's a great shame since the writing and narration are excellent but they carry this unremarkable storyline as Hirsch defies orders and common sense to go lone wolf time and time again. If a council clerk can use satellite images from Google Maps it seems inconceivable that a SAP patrol officer would not check out what lies beyond a locked gate before sneaking in without backup. Well, Hirsch does. it is a very predictable pattern in these books.

I've enjoyed the whole series - the character development and descriptions of the harsh terrain particularly. The narrator is exceptionally good
