Summary

Bernd Heinrich involves us in his quest to get inside the mind of the raven. But as animals can be spied on only by getting quite close, Heinrich adopts ravens, thereby becoming a "raven father", as well as observing them in their natural habitat. He studies their daily routines and, in the process, paints a vivid picture of the ravens' world.

At the heart of this book are Heinrich's love and respect for these complex and engaging creatures, and through his keen observation and analysis we become their intimates, too. Heinrich's passion for ravens has led him around the world in his research. Mind of the Raven follows an exotic journey - from New England to Germany, and from Montana to Baffin Island in the High Arctic - offering dazzling accounts of how science works in the field, filtered through the eyes of a passionate observer of nature. Each new discovery and insight into raven behavior is thrilling, at once lyrical and scientific.

Narrator murders this

Lovely book, deeply fascinating and affectionately written but you're not going to sit down and listen to it for the joy of the performance. I battled through for the sake of the content but as wonderful as that is I was constantly irritated and bored by the reading. Hair shirt stuff, worthy but not fun.

Great book if you adore corvids

Only a short review. Great book and it comes with huge insight. However, the narrator's voice is really slow and annoying. It is partially solvable by speeding up the playback to 1. 25 or even 1. 5 faster.
I'd still recommend this to anyone who loves crows and ravens.

Painful narrators voice

Couldn’t even finish this book. The narrator sounds like he’s had or is mid way through a mild stroke :(

Excellent book

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it's fascinating, and I found it a wonderful evening listen. I didn't have any issue with the narrator; you get used to his style quickly and if it feels a bit slow at first, switching to x1.2 speed really helps. I am sad to have finished this book and would definitely listen again.

Mind of the Raven review

An authoritative and comprehensive treatise on a fascinating species. Bit longwinded in places, so my concentration wavered. The narrators voice suits the topic
