Based on exclusive and unrestricted access to more than 5,000 pages of personal writings and family photos, this definitive biography of German physician and SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Josef Mengele (1911-1979) probes the personality and motivations of Auschwitz's "Angel of Death". From May 1943 through January 1945, Mengele selected who would be gassed immediately, who would be worked to death, and who would serve as involuntary guinea pigs for his spurious and ghastly human experiments (twins were Mengele's particular obsession). With authority and insight, Mengele examines the entire life of the world's most infamous doctor.

A really interesting book, with great insight into the upbringing and character of Mengele, but utterly ruined by the robotic and toneless narration. I couldn't finish the audiobook because of the awful narration but I got the actual book instead and it's definitely worth reading. However, I would never buy anything narrated by this individual again. Very disappointing.

otally Spoiled by Toneless Narration!

I think this was fairly compellingly written but I honestly couldn’t tell because of the awful narrator. I did eventually get used to his robotic tones but it almost ruined an otherwise interesting listen. I have remembered his name only to avoid anything else he narrates.

Well written, TERRIBLE narrator

The book itself is great, very interesting and very in depth.
However I do find the narrator to be a bit difficult to get into, it almost sounds like he is an AI and they're using snippets of his voice patched together but I believe this his real talking voice.
Once you get past that though, he's great.

If you are into history and want something more in depth, then I highly recommend this audio book!

AI Narrator but interesting book!

By new I mean that although the story takes place way before my birth I had usually heard of Mengele when it comes to Auschwitz. This book also takes you through his journey afterwards and his personal connections and shines a light on his personality. This is an aspect of his life that I did not know at all and was very interesting to hear.

Interesting and new

A very good insight on the monster, just one small part of the Nazi nightmare

Worth a listen
