Summary

Based on exclusive and unrestricted access to more than 5,000 pages of personal writings and family photos, this definitive biography of German physician and SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Josef Mengele (1911-1979) probes the personality and motivations of Auschwitz's "Angel of Death". From May 1943 through January 1945, Mengele selected who would be gassed immediately, who would be worked to death, and who would serve as involuntary guinea pigs for his spurious and ghastly human experiments (twins were Mengele's particular obsession). With authority and insight, Mengele examines the entire life of the world's most infamous doctor.

Read first !!!!!!!

If narration is a big of a part as the book itself then I urge you not to get this book. I cannot begin to say how disappointed I am in this book purely to the narrator. Being able to read DOES NOT mean you can narrate. This narrator sounds like a computer voice with absolutely no concept of what narrating is. I can read quite well and am 100% sure that I cannot narrate and as such do not do so.

I don’t know how the narrators are chosen but audible you need to pull your finger out and stop using these useless people. Highly disappointed if I could give less I would, thanks for ruing what I can only imagine would have been a good listen !!!!

A worthy and well written novel

This work is of immense importance in the story behind the search for Dr. Mengele. It answers many questions concerning the scope of people involved in allowing him his freedom in South America for so many, many years. However it left me, an aging survivor of a family which was totally wiped out at the Auswich Biercanae killing grounds, wanting to know more. To know what actually happened in those camps. So I find myself still left with a bitter-sweet taste of knowing the whole truth behind Mengeles roll in destroying every trace of my family and no way of finding the entire truth. I may soon be dead ,myself. And with that , they will have completely wiped out one Jewish families entire bloodline.

Great historical work.

Although Bruce Mann has won awards cor his narration, i just couldn't get used to his voice at all. Putting that aside the story is riveting. Although some may require a strong stomach to get past the first two chapters. Great listen.

Very interesting book

This is a great book but I struggled with the narrator. The information is amazing but the narrator caused a loss in interest very quickly. sorry.

fantastic book. very sobering and heartbreaking

such an important story to know. What human beings can be capable of is truly frightening. narrator was fairly robotic and dry and it was a v long book to follow but fantastic nonetheless

AI Narrator but interesting book!

The book itself is great, very interesting and very in depth.
However I do find the narrator to be a bit difficult to get into, it almost sounds like he is an AI and they're using snippets of his voice patched together but I believe this his real talking voice.
Once you get past that though, he's great.

If you are into history and want something more in depth, then I highly recommend this audio book!

ONE OF THE WORST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ

I LOVE TO READ HISTORY AND ESPECIALLY HISTORY ABOUT WORLD WAR II. I HAD A SMALL AMOUNT OF KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION ABOUT MENGELE AND THOUGHT THIS WOULD ADD TO MY "KNOWLEDGE" HOW AND WHY SOMEONE COULD DO WHAT HE DID....UNFORTUNATELY THAT DIDN'T COME THRU WITH THIS BOOK.
I WALK EVERY DAY...5 TO 8 MILES...AND IT'S USUALLY ENJOYABLE TO LISTEN TO A BOOK AND FORGET ABOUT THE MILES. UNFORTUNATELY THIS BOOK MADE A 5 MILE WALK SEEM LIKE 50. IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MENGELE...FIND ANOTHER AUTHOR, NARRATOR (BRUCE IS TERRIBLE) AND BOOK. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR CREDIT.

Love this book

I love this book so much! It goes into depth about Josef Mengele's whole life with very accurate information. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the life of Josef Mengele, aka angel of death. Overall, I love this book cuz I have it in audio and a physical copy of this book and others on him.

Terrible narrator

I was really disappointed in who narrated this book. I felt annoyed before the introduction was over. I feel as tho Stefan Rudnicki would make this a 5 star rating. Please let me know if you ever decide to go in that direction.

good narration; exhaustively detailed

Credibly written and seems exhaustive. For me, too much detail of little interest or consequence. Narration is good. I did finish it, albeit without great enthusiasm.

To long

A really good 2 hour story told over 15 hours. It really gets in the weeds about his time in hiding. Very little spent on his atrocities.
