Summary

Based on exclusive and unrestricted access to more than 5,000 pages of personal writings and family photos, this definitive biography of German physician and SS-Hauptsturmfuhrer Josef Mengele (1911-1979) probes the personality and motivations of Auschwitz's "Angel of Death". From May 1943 through January 1945, Mengele selected who would be gassed immediately, who would be worked to death, and who would serve as involuntary guinea pigs for his spurious and ghastly human experiments (twins were Mengele's particular obsession). With authority and insight, Mengele examines the entire life of the world's most infamous doctor.

Read first !!!!!!!

If narration is a big of a part as the book itself then I urge you not to get this book. I cannot begin to say how disappointed I am in this book purely to the narrator. Being able to read DOES NOT mean you can narrate. This narrator sounds like a computer voice with absolutely no concept of what narrating is. I can read quite well and am 100% sure that I cannot narrate and as such do not do so.

I don’t know how the narrators are chosen but audible you need to pull your finger out and stop using these useless people. Highly disappointed if I could give less I would, thanks for ruing what I can only imagine would have been a good listen !!!!

Intriguing story, but the. Narrator was the. Most irritating. I've ever. Listened to. Ruined the content for me a bit.

Very interesting book

This is a great book but I struggled with the narrator. The information is amazing but the narrator caused a loss in interest very quickly. sorry.

A worthy and well written novel

This work is of immense importance in the story behind the search for Dr. Mengele. It answers many questions concerning the scope of people involved in allowing him his freedom in South America for so many, many years. However it left me, an aging survivor of a family which was totally wiped out at the Auswich Biercanae killing grounds, wanting to know more. To know what actually happened in those camps. So I find myself still left with a bitter-sweet taste of knowing the whole truth behind Mengeles roll in destroying every trace of my family and no way of finding the entire truth. I may soon be dead ,myself. And with that , they will have completely wiped out one Jewish families entire bloodline.

Great historical work.

Although Bruce Mann has won awards cor his narration, i just couldn't get used to his voice at all. Putting that aside the story is riveting. Although some may require a strong stomach to get past the first two chapters. Great listen.

otally Spoiled by Toneless Narration!

A really interesting book, with great insight into the upbringing and character of Mengele, but utterly ruined by the robotic and toneless narration. I couldn't finish the audiobook because of the awful narration but I got the actual book instead and it's definitely worth reading. However, I would never buy anything narrated by this individual again. Very disappointing.

Worst narrator I’ve ever heard

Great detail and account let down by the narrator. The only saving Grace is it was on audible plus so I didn’t spend money. Quite frankly anyone could have narrated this better including Siri.

Well written, TERRIBLE narrator

I think this was fairly compellingly written but I honestly couldn’t tell because of the awful narrator. I did eventually get used to his robotic tones but it almost ruined an otherwise interesting listen. I have remembered his name only to avoid anything else he narrates.
