For amiable City trader Jimmy Corby money was the new Rock n' Roll. His whole life was a party, adrenalin charged and cocaine fuelled. If he hadn't met Monica he would probably have ended up either dead or in rehab.

But Jimmy was as lucky in love as he was at betting on dodgy derivatives, so instead of burning out, his star just burned brighter than ever. Rich, pampered and successful, Jimmy, Monica and their friends lived the dream, bringing up their children with an army of domestic helps.

But then it all came crashing down. And when the global financial crisis hit, Jimmy discovers that anyone can handle success. It's how you handle failure that really matters.

Well I loved this book, as I worked in the same arena as book took place and the same era as well, I could identify
with that mentality of the characters... If you like this book, watch the film "Wolf of Wall street" same era,
had me on the floor laughing as well...

Super funny book.. A must read

Loved listening to this one, indeed I finished it in a week. Interesting characters and a good plot with a few twists and turns along the way. We'll worth your time.

Very cool analogy of the "New Labour/Old Tory" experiment of getting into bed with the financial sector during the late 90s and Noughties. Very cleverly told in continuing flashbacks between 90s and the late 2000s. Ben Elton tells the intertwining story of a group of university friends and their differing fortunes with his trademark humour. Great voice and character work from Paul Thornley. It was honestly a treat from start to finish with 'a lil bit of politics thrown in for good measure as Mr Elton might say during a stand up gig.

Just a weak ass storyline, which is a shame because it started promising but didnt ever really go anywhere with the journey through reading it. It just merely ambled towards a rather lame ending that could of been written in 5 minutes on the loo! I usually love Elton, but this was average at best...boring at worse...

Not enough direction in the plot/story

loved the story, real warmth and heart despite the topic (finance!?). Very well read narration. Can't praise this enough.
