About this listen

Please note that this audiobook contains explicit language and content some listeners may find distressing.

The memoir from the real woman behind the leopard print, for real women everywhere.

As one-fifth of the iconic Spice Girls and judge on X Factor and America's Got Talent, Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, has been an international star since the age of 19. And yet there are sides of Mel that no one has ever seen or really known.

Brutally Honest is an exposé of the struggles and acute pain that lay behind the glamour and success. With deep personal insight, remarkable frankness and Melanie’s trademark Yorkshire humour, this audiobook removes the mask of fame and reveals the mother, wife and daughter behind the Spice Girl everyone thinks they know.

The audiobook edition features narration from Melanie, her daughter, Phoenix, and her mother, Andrea.

This is an excellent autobiography. Melanie Brown used a writer, Louise Gannon to compose the text, but it is very much her story. The Spice Girls were well after my time (although I’ve happily sung along to the songs). The band is of my daughter’s generation. Therefore, my review is not one of a Spice Girls fan. Since listening to the book though, I have developed real admiration for Melanie. She has very obviously been to hell and back. Yet she remains a strong, empathic and compassionate women.

This book is extremely well written by Louise and the narration is perfect. It is as if Melanie is reading it herself. It is powerful, at times horrific and feels brutally honest as the title states. It is also compelling, so difficult to put down. I was up until 4am with it one night.

Although it is packed with content covering years of her life, I was left feeling like there was so much more I wanted to know. If she writes another book, I will buy it without hesitation.

Highly recommended.

I really loved this book made me really think about relationships.

Just shows that what you see of celebrities is not what is really going on behind closed doors!

I was really impressed with Audible. Have just downloaded my next book.

This was my first audio book.. Brilliant!

Very honest and raw. Heartbreaking but a powerful look at behind closed doors of Mel’s life.

This book is amazing. It does exactly what it says and Mel is brutally honest. You’re shocked, angry, surprised and above all captivated whilst listening to Mel’s story. Listening to Phoenix tell her story was quite heart wrenching, but also incredibly brave. Zara Abraham’s narration is exquisite and a top choice for this book. I loved it and have nothing but respect and admiration for Mel.

A must read
