A Great Start for the Meditation.

You cannot blame the translator for translating the Meditations, and you cannot blame Marcus for writing his journal his way, without ever believing anyone else would read it, for that does not matter.

The Value of Lived Experience

This book is very good, but I think people should be aware of what they're buying before they buy it. This book discusses some Buddhist concepts that are behind Vipassana meditation, and discusses why people meditate, and what the short term and long term benefits to meditation are.

Simple & Effective

I was introduced to Marcus Aurelius by my boyfriend when I expressed interest in Stoicism. Although I have heard many of the concepts or sentiments in the book elsewhere before, it was refreshing to see them from the perspective of an ancient leader. Many of his musings have become invaluable to me and I find myself repeating the messages on a regular basis.

This book is excelent

Most people who talk about meditation just explain the logistics of meditation such as when, where and for how long to meditate As someone long familiar with Buddhism but not yet over the hump in terms of a regular sitting practice, this is the book that (finally) got me over that hump.

Poetic and insightful

I am sincerely pissed that I was not provided a copy of this as a kid growing up. I have devised a work around to the whole "Not growing up with a father figure" issue. I have decided that Michael Yates is my actual father, and Socrates is my great uncle and Thales is my grand father First, do we all recognize that the author of this text, Marcus Aurelius, was a Roman Emperor? If so, why have I not been forced to read this from a young age? This is quite possibly the most insightful, existential book I've ever read. Emperor Aurelius has given us wisdom in its purest form. This should be a manual for every human's life. Every sentence is mind-numbingly profound.

Interesting, intriguing, and impactful!

I have been practicing yoga for about 21years and this has become one of my favorite Yoga books because it delves into the application of the philosophy of Yoga. His background of overcoming drug addiction and finding out on his own about the healing of this ancient practice lends this book a very human quality. This is my favorite book on how to live yoga off the mat, as well as on. The thoughtful daily readings allow us to contemplate how we can apply our practice to our daily life.

Most recommended book to clients

There is so much argument over which translation is the best. I initially obtained the free version from project Gutenberg, but found it to be filled with too many embellishments from old English. I then looked at the modern Hays translation which many people seem to like, but found it to be too colloquial and it seemed to rob the text of its gravity. Finally I found gestalt with this penguin translation. It's light and clear while retaining a classic grammatical style that lenses the text a feeling of heft and authority. There is so much argument over which translation is the best. I initially obtained the free version from project Gutenberg, but found it to be filled with too many embellishments from old English.

Love this book so much

This is the first book I listen on meditation that actually helped me start to meditate. I am a beginner, and have always been frustrated by the sit-down-and-sit-cross-legged approach. Maurine says it's okay to stand up, look at water, or even walk around if that is what helps. She also says it's not necessary to try to silence your mind, and actually that can be counter-productive. I have listen this book from cover to cover at least three times and I know I will listen it again. Every time I make another round through this beautifully written exploration of meditation, I learn something new, understand some nuance more fully and come into the joy of my practice more fully.

Very informative and easy listen!!!!

This book is very detailed, but easy to understand. The exercises in it are incredibly valuable & add to the overall quality of life. It's my favorite book on meditation because it is very specific on how you should position yourself, how you should breathe, etc. I initially borrowed this book from my daughter's library and while I was going through it, I realized that I had to have a copy of my own! I had heavily post it noted hers !!! I then had to go through mine and update the post it pages!

Genuinely helpful!

Mindfulness Meditation for Beginners such an amazing guidebook. This book all of the information very easy to understand. The beginning is biographical about Andy Puddicombe, and his gaining the knowledge and the benefits of Meditation and Mindfulness. I found this quite interesting. The book is written at a pace which makes it easy to understand and keeps you reading more.

A Lovely Book!!!

A great starting point for anyone looking to integrate meditation into their lives. Taking mindful approaches to anxiety is consistently the only technique that has worked for me. Through the strategies in this book, I have been relieved of plenty of suffering and pain.

One of my favorite listen!!

These type of books and other versions of this that I have listen have a lot of messy citations. I like those versions when looking at the book from a historical perspective, but I think they get in the way of casual study of the work.

Excellent meditations for any man

This book has been used for centuries as a guide for living well and bravely in the face of human contingency and the vicissitudes of earthy life. The translation is a pleasure to read. I can't recommend it enough. and I got this for my husband, but he didn't seem interested, so I started listen it. It was so good, I started using it during my morning meditation. Now it is my go-to. So suitable for both genders - just a great meditation book.

Perfect for therapists!

I'm a fan of self help books that aren't meant to be consumed all at once and can be devoured in small little chunks. Meditation for Relaxation is just that, it's filled with 60 different meditations that range in length from 5 or 10 or 15 minutes to complete. You can make it as little or as long as you need it to be and is perfect for those who don't have a lot of free time to devote to a new practice.

Timeless classic

The modern translation of this text is relatable and easy to digest deep and complicated ideals. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the various interpretations of the Stoics and to anyone seeking wisdom for their lives and personal development.

Great book, easy guide

I listen this book along with attending a meditation class at my community college. The introduction allowed a better understanding of the meditation exercises. Although some the exercise instructions were repetitive they were clearly written and were consistent and complementary to my community college course.

On Point and of Benefit to All Beings

This book does a great job of succinctly yet comprehensively showcasing the vast knowledge base of meditative practices of Early Buddhism. It modernizes the instructions, benefits, and practices in a form that anyone from a beginner to seasoned meditator can learn from. I, even, bought a copy for a friend, and he too has benefited from undergoing the progressive meditations that build upon each other.
