A Bit of Modern Math

One hopes the author's sense of math proportion is better than his sense of self importance. The book is offered as one focussed on modern math but three quarters seem to be about him. Nevertheless that one quarter is informative and valuable.

good book for smart kids

The real life story is fascinating. The writing is absorbing. The maths is interesting. The narrator has serious problems. He puts the stress and intonation on the wrong syllables and in general his delivery is unnatural. He does not know, and has not been told by anyone involved in this production, that the “t” in “Fermat” is silent. He also does not know, and has not been told, how to pronounce “archipelago.” I can barely listen to this level of sloppiness. Someone should have known better.

great book if you enjoy mathematics

This book gets a little technical for those that didn't get past calculus. The Soviet and Russian background in mathematics was great, and new to me. I highly recommend for those that study math or science.

Awesome book

The concept of Poker Math is foundational for making + EV decisions. Already feeling more comfortable in those not so comfortable spots. Already read it once. Now I listen to the Audio book when I'm in the car!!!

I would recommend this audio-book

Great intro to basic poker math. I was looking for something to brush up on the basics and this did the trick. Everything I wanted to learn in a clear, concise and to-the-point manner...talks about essential poker math and nothing else...just what I wanted. It's not an advanced poker math book, so if that is what you're looking for, look elsewhere, but if you want to brush up on the basic I highly recommend! Also, the included course is wonderful bonus!

This is an AMAZING math book!

I've been playing poker on and off for years, but was lacking a solid understanding of all the math that goes into high level poker. Alton's book is perfect for learning poker math. He is able to explain concepts that I had 'learned' from multiple other sources in a way that really sunk in! And now with an audio book version of his book you don't even have to take your eyes off the poker table and stop playing to learn about poker!

Tips that actually worked for this player!

This is a great book, with knowledge quite deep but one does not need to know all the technical details.

I like the variation of riddles. Even adults will enjoy these hundreds of riddles. Brain teasers will really trick you. Some have simple answers while others are tricky.
