Summary

Are you still struggling with the effects of an abusive relationship?

Do you sometimes think that you are going crazy? Do the people you care about break your heart by making you feel guilty so that you think you know what's going on, but then you start doubting your thoughts and feelings?

Or are the members of your family, who should have loved and protected you, done nothing but make you feel obligated at every opportunity to make you do what they want?

The answer to the above questions, although complex and often confusing, can be given in two words: emotional blackmail.

Emotional blackmail is a hidden, aggressive way in which a person close to us threatens, directly or indirectly, to punish us if we fail to meet their expectations. It is a powerful form of manipulation that exploits the people you have close relationships with.

We usually think that the blackmailer is a selfish, devious, and mean person; however, this perspective is a weak explanation of this emotional phenomenon, because the reality is very different:

They could be work colleagues, parents, friends and even partners. They can be sneaky blackmailers who, directly or indirectly, manipulate in order to get what they want or to feed their needs.

Blackmailers are cunning charmers and master manipulators, to the point where you start to accept the most extreme behaviours as normal, even if they hurt you.

Here are some brutal examples of threats faced by people that I interviewed:

If you don't take care of me, I will end up in the hospital / on the street / unable to work.

You will never see your children again.

I will make you suffer.

You will destroy this family.

You are no longer my son.

You will regret it.

I'm excluding you from my will.

I will get sick.

I can't do it without you.

If I ever see another man looking at you, I'll kill him.

If you ever stop loving me, I'll kill myself.

This manual which is a real self-defence course, unlike other publications, does not read like a university course; anyone can listen to it, and it will enable you enter the head of the "blackmailer" and disarm him.

What You Will Learn From This Manual:

  • How to recognise the subtle signs of emotional blackmail and never fall into the trap again.
  • How to recognise toxic personalities and walk away from them.
  • The various types of blackmail and techniques that blackmailers use on a daily basis to drive you crazy.
  • How to break the chains of blackmail and defend yourself from their attacks
  • Attachment and co-dependency patterns to enable you to understand where all this hell began.
  • How to heal and get out of this harmful spiral once and for all.

What You Need Now:

You need someone who has experienced the same things you have experienced. Someone who understands blackmailers from the inside.

This is a very good book. It is clearly listen

Disarm the Hidden Techniques of the Blackmailer, Set Boundaries and Free Yourself from Feelings of Fear, Obligation, Guilt and Anxiety,This is a very good book. It is clearly listen, and does not try to portray a "victim/victimizer" stance. It gives much food for thought and causes one to evaluate oneself and see that probably all of us have been on the receiving and giving end of this one. What is especially helpful is that it gives practical suggestions and support on how to identify and change the dynamics of relationships we find ourselves in that may have some of these characteristics.

Letting people go

I found this book to be very informative. Christopher Forward does a great job explaining how people in our lives use blackmail to get what they want from us and how we can be strong enough to change our relationships with people like this. The book came in great condition and arrived on time.

Wonderful book!

This is a great book. It is easy to listen, has great suggestions on how to manage emotional blackmail and is right on target with some of the reasons why emotional blackmailers do what they do. Once we realize that they are really just scared of us and the power we have, we start to gain more power over our lives.

Eye opener

I'm going to tie this book into a review of one of her other books toxic in laws because this is the context that my fiancé, now husband used them.
My husband's parents are just plain nut jobs! It always astounded me how my strong, amazing, caring, kind, and loving husband could ever come from this bigoted and cruel family.

very helpful book

I am a therapist and I have already recommended this to a few clients who have to deal with difficult people in their lives. The examples very helpful and the advice is clear and achievable. We can't change others but we can alter our responses to them and take back control of our own lives.

A Light on Dysfunctionality

Having grown up with emotional blackmail from different family members, I found it refreshing to have someone identify all their dysfunctional patters and offer solutions. If you were, or are, in a similar situation, I highly recommend this book.

I wasn't sure how to communicate my frustration with my girlfriend about her behavior. I came across this book and immediately purchased it, placed it on my nightstand, and invited her to spend the night
