What separates the world's top traders from the vast majority of unsuccessful investors? In this iconic financial classic, Jack Schwager sets out to answer this question in his interviews with superstar money-makers including Bruce Kovner, Richard Dennis, Paul Tudor Jones, Michel Steinhardt, Ed Seykota, Marty Schwartz, Tom Baldwin, and more in this audiobook.

This interview-style audiobook from a financial expert is a must-listen for traders and professional financiers alike, as well as anyone interested in gaining insight into how the world of finance really works.

Filled with anecdotes about market experiences, including the story of a trader who, after wiping out several times, turned $30,000 into $80 million, and an electrical engineer from MIT whose computerized trading has earned returns of 250,000 percent over 16 years.

Some blunders but good overall

it's a long book but it's easily digestible in the chapters format.. each trader gets a chapter that are roughly 35 to 40 mins long so if you cant spare hours to listen then 35 or 40 mins should get you through a chapter..

the content is very good and while no trader gives away their technique there are some tips on how to find good stocks

A gem.

Great book. Awesome content. Shocking editing. Full of page turns and restarts from the narrator. Still well worth a listen.

Disappointing compared to Hedge Fund Market Wizard

The author later wrote the Hedge Fund Market Wizards which I thought was pretty good... compelling me to read this earlier work of his... I have to say that this book was not nearly as good. In what way? Well this book reads more like the nonsensical ramblings of a compulsive gambler whereas the Hedge Fund book was more rational and recognized the inefficiencies being exploited by traders. Instead I feel that this older book is implying that "intuition" has value in trading. The appearance of AI and machine learning methods, neural networks etc. has entirely eradicated whatever edge human "intuition" could have provided... in truth, I very much doubt that such an edge ever existed. The whole concept of "intuitive-trader" reeks of justification of either deliberate fraud or gambling compulsion.

The fact that this book was written before the emergence of AI, renders this book obsolete in contrast to the authors' more recent book, which is actually quite pertinent. My respect to the author for the uncommonly rational shift in paradigm. I advice throwing this book out, especially its notions of trading by intuition or dream-interpretation, and replacing it with the new one: "Hedge Fund Market Wizards".

This book gives a good idea on the mind set of the top traders of our time. Jack new exactly what to ask on his interviews. I would recommend going over this book more than once and keep notes to.

Starts with an advert and sound quality is poor.

Starts on a poor point with an advertisement. Why would anyone want to pay for commercials.

Then it's been recorded on a cheap microphone and sounds artificial and compressed. Also the performances are weak.

ESSENTIAL

What made the experience of listening to Market Wizards the most enjoyable?

The superb insight and experience of the contents

Who was your favorite character and why?

Schwager because he knew exactly what questions to ask.

Which character – as performed by Jack D. Schwager – was your favorite?

Himself

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well worth the money

Any additional comments?

Again I have over 400 books in my audio library and 95% of them are on stocks, finance, investing, economics.
This is one of the best one that I have bought ie’ the top 1%. I have been studying the stock market for about five years now and a how to book with insights and things a person can actually apply to their trading/investing tool box are very few and far between. This book is pure knowledge/experience of some of the great’s including Jack Schwager himself. For him to share his knowledge and that of traders/inverstors that have inspired him is truely a blessing. If you want your trading/investing to return dividends well worth the expense of this book and beyond this is definetly one that you will want to read/rememebr and apply!!!

THIS IS NOW A NEW NARRATION

This is the author. I fully agree with some of the negative comments about the performance. In fact, this is the reason why I personally paid for a new narration by the superb DJ Holte who I previously selected to do the narration for The New Market Wizards--a book for which I owned the audio rights. On Audible, there is no way to delineate performance reviews between the original version and the current recording, which has replaced it. So keep in mind, performance review comments prior to late November 2018 are no longer pertinent because the recording referred to has been replaced by an entirely new recording with a different narrator. I am highly confident that listeners will find this new recording of excellent quality. (Note that Audible forces rating selections in order to write a comment, so I chose ratings below the average, except for performance, so as to avoid improving the existing scores.)

Excelent book, but the narrator needs to slow down

Any additional comments?

As a professional trader, I have read many books on the subject. Jack Schwager's are amongst the best. .

I was excited to see that Audible had released a recording of Market Wizards, however the narrator was very difficult to follow. He raced through the book like he was late for something without considering context or punctuation. I spent the first chapter trying to keep up with what he was saying, without being able to enjoy the story.

I ended up listing the entire book at .5 speed, which is something I have never done before. That didn't take as much getting used to as you might expect, because even at half speed, the tempo wasn’t much slower than it should have been if read normally. I prefer to enjoy my audiobooks at a normal reading speed that allows me to think through what I'm listening to.

Hedge Fund Market Wizards, which I have also listened to on Audible, did not have this issue.

Editing

Book was good, but the editing of the audio was the worst I've encountered in a book from audible. The narrator repeats words and sentences and there are a couple times where you hear him make a mistake, stop and then read the line over again. It was as if no one gave it a proof listen before it was released.

Material from the 1980's

What would have made Market Wizards better?

When I read the info on the Audible Version of this book I thought it was current but the interviews are from the 1980s. Its well written and good basic advice but its way outdated. I don't know how others are rating it like they are

A wealth of knowledge

Would you consider the audio edition of Market Wizards to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version, not yet anyway.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It was a book of interviews, and I feel I learned a few things from each one.

Have you listened to any of Jack D. Schwager’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not, but I am considering some of his other work.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I rarely listen for that length of time. This book flowed very well. When I was at the end of the audio, I wanted it to continue.

Any additional comments?

I will listen to this audio again. There were times where the information was a bit over my head, being a beginning trader, but that did not discourage me. I would rather have it that way, than the other. Also, this book I am pretty sure was not the "updated" version, which showed every once in a while, but don't let that dissuade you from listening.

Because these interviewees were some of the best traders of all time, I highly recommend this audio to anyone interested in investing, at any stage of the game.

Definitely should be in your top 3 must reads

Would you listen to Market Wizards again? Why?

I most definitely will read it again. This was by far the most educational book on trading I've read. It is also very motivating. I find that this, and Reminiscences of a Stock Operator the most important trading books to read. As you trade, you learn even more lessons by making the same mistakes as these traders have. You get so many life lessons here. The information may be dated but the psychology isn't - even in today's HFT ridden markets.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Market Wizards?

Each trader has a unique story. Each have earned a unique degree of success. I think the big kicker of this book is that you get so many different trader types and styles, sometimes even contradicting each other, but they are all successful. It goes to show that you need to find a style that suits your personality and there is not really a holy grail or one right way to trade. That alone is motivating and encouraging...You can even pick up tid-bits of traders that are most similar to you. I would definitely get this in audiobook form as it reads like two friends having a conversation throughout. You can tease more out of that than reading. None of the intonation/sarcasm is lost as the narrator himself has personal experience of the interviews. This was probably the best audiobook I've purchased thusfar.

What about Jack D. Schwager’s performance did you like?

His ability to convey the personality of his interview subjects. The book sounds like a conversation between two good friends with their vocal variety and intonation keeping you entertained.

Interviews Fall Just short

Pros:

- Great lineup of interviewees
- Good flow of questions and conversation
- A handful of golden nuggets

Cons:

- Heydays of interviewees gone a long time ago. It seems most of them have not been able to adapt to the newer markets.

- Interviewer moves on after asking initial questions, as opposed to digging in further and getting depth. Hence, one does not really get a glimpse of the “secret sauce” that made these traders successful.

Great advice for any trader !

Just when the book started to get a bit dry a Nugget of trading wisdom would be offered up. Most of today's trading rules were pioneered or made standard by these traders.
