Summary

If one touch can infect...then a kiss is deadly.

All Ruby Behl wants for her 17th birthday is a good career path match, and to kiss her best friend and longtime crush, Wesley Fairchild. Unfortunately, the simplicity of teenage wishes evaporated a decade ago when the Tercera virus nearly wiped out the human race. Transmitted through touch, the slightest contact is prohibited in the safe haven community of Port Gibson.

An innocent game of Spin the Bottle, a rite of passage for Port Gibson's teens, provides the opportunity Ruby's been waiting for, but when Wesley winds up Marked, Ruby realizes her first kiss may also be her last. Ruby races the viral clock to uncover long buried secrets about her dead parents, and her once cloudy future becomes clear. She's the key to finding the cure, but is she willing to pay the price?

Amazing must read

Listened to by three generations 16-67 we all became invested in the characters and couldn’t wait to find out what happens, a great book with depth and plot twists along the way to keep you guessing

Pretty good story

The story entertained, but seemed a little light, like it was misunderstood something. More detail is needed to really captivate. I would like the author to dive deeper. Overall it is just average. Apparently I have to read more books to get deeper, but I have read other stories that manage that task in the first book.

Immature writing

After the Hunger Games, many authors jumped on the dystopian future bandwagon. One of my biggest complaints is the teens in these situations would have matured much earlier in life as they struggle in their new world. But these authors are writing the teens with such immaturity: "only I can save the world but I wonder if token cute boy likes me". The characters shouldn't be this shallow. This book is no different. I roll my eyes over and over as I'm listening and at the 1/2 way point I gave up.

Decent

Decent story. Enjoyable characters. Horrible narration. Increasing the speed to 1.15 helped some, but still not good. I couldn't tell at first if it was the writing I didn't like or that the narration ruined an otherwise good story. I think it's the latter.

Flawed story but it's great for teens

in the beginning the main character seems aloof from her relatives that took her in. At first calling her cousins cousins and then later calling them brother and sister? It was an abrupt change in how she referred to them.
the narrator does a really good job at portraying the emotions of an indecisive and irrational teen. it makes me very curious to know what experiments have been done on Sam as he seems to be almost superhuman.
As for the narrator, she did a fairly decent job. however, sometimes I was trying to figure out what was actually said out loud and what was thought in the main characters mind. there was no subtle change to sort of help the listener understand the switch.

Disappointed

I saw this book posted on Facebook and the details caught my eye. The story is alright, the narrator is good but I found it hard not getting bored and quitting it. I paid money for it though so I forced my way through.

Adventures

Ruby is a teenager that is living in a world where you become an adult at only seventeen. She’s small in every way and only just shy of her seventeenth birthday, and feels like she no longer a child. The adventure she embarks on makes her grow up fast and she starts to see things a little differently. Your emotions will be all over the place and the narrative is outstanding.

Great story

I loved this series. My only complaint was that the narrator was a bit too monotone. It wasn’t so bad that it was hard to listen to, but I felt she needed some more emotion. The story is good. Loved all three books.
