About this listen

At the tender age of 10, Fanny Price is 'adopted' by her rich relations and is removed from the poverty of her home in Portsmouth to the opulence of Mansfield Park. The transplantation is not a happy one. Dependent, helpless, neglected and forgotten, Fanny struggles to come to terms with her new life until, tested almost to the limits of endurance, she assumes her rightful role....

Juliet Stevenson is a brilliant narrator. I really enjoyed the story and her narration brought it to life

Great story and brilliant narrator

Where does Mansfield Park rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

No 1!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miss Crawford - she is selfish, shallow, catty and manipulative but entirely open about it and proud of the fact - you can't wait for her comeuppance!

What does Juliet Stevenson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Her diction and characterisation are faultless - I cannot imagine listening to anyone else narrating Jane Austen as she has spoilt me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No - it is unabridged and forms part of my nightly listening when unable to sleep in the early hours!

Any additional comments?

I am enjoying my Audible experience thoroughly!

Rollercoaster insight into society of the past

Eloquently narrated by Juliet Stevenson, who captures the atmosphere perfectly. The characters come to life in this story.

Jane Austin entertainment.

Jane Austen has been my favourite author since I was 13 and Juliet Stevenson reads Mansfield Park perfectly! I listen to Pride and Prejudice every Christmas - I think this edition of Mansfield Park will now become part of my regular New Year celebrations!

Such a complete joy!

Not usually regarded as Jane Austen's best novel, and her heroine Fanny Price is not to be compared to Emma, or Elizabeth Bennet, but Juliet Stevenson's superb narration gives life to this long morality tale of virtue rewarded and folly punished. The real joy is in the supporting cast, characters like Aunt Norris and Lady Bertram, the charming but dangerous Crawfords, who are sketched with all Austen's trademark wickedness and sly satire.

thoroughly enjoyable
