Summary

Dale Vince never intended to start a business. Driven by a passion for sustainability, he left school aged 15 and became a New Age traveller, living for free in a wind-powered double decker bus. But after building his first wind turbine, he realised that to change the world he needed to be on the grid, not off it. In 1996, he founded green energy company Ecotricity based on principles of social, financial, and environmental sustainability, and changed the landscape of UK energy forever.

Since then, Dale has been appointed a UN ambassador for climate issues, become the owner of the first ever vegan football club, and amassed a fortune of over £120 million built on sustainability. He has also been a vocal supporter of Extinction Rebellion which, like Ecotricity, is based in Stroud. In this book, he shares his single-minded and uniquely purpose-orientated approach to business, with lessons learned from experience that will speak to any fledgling entrepreneur.

This is the story of a man whose unwavering mission to help save the environment has driven him all the way to the top, and a powerful manifesto for anyone who wants to change the world.

Everyone should here this.

I’m vegan, Solar on house, EV and environmentalist. But it doesn’t mean I agree with everything Vince says.
However for me it definitely has to be driven by politics and the big 3 will not do it. Some of the Green policies are weak.
We need a new way, with household names leading the way, a new party. I really don’t think any party represents me but the content of this book is bloody close!! Really enjoyed it. Oh and the wife installs off shore wind farms, so we’re sold. It’s just who we get behind and who can start delivering this.

call to arms

This is probably the best book i have ever read.
Not how it’s written but what it says. The 1st part identified him as a funny, and romantic, lovable rogue. The 2nd part is truly amazing…. a real world hero. Fabulous

What a journey

I am richer for having listened to this, whilst I disagree about the absolute need for veganism I get the point, but a fascinating and well presented journey that is inspiring and much needed in the present day. I love that Chris Packham read part of this I hope to see political challenges made by this duo

Interesting and informative

A very interesting listen. I listen to Dale Vince's podcast but was nice to hear about his history. What an interesting character Dale Vince it. Chris Packham's narration was 5 star itself. I highly recommend this book and I will listen again.

A Breath of Fresh Air

I really enjoyed this book being a reflection of the story of a transition underway as we experience the power struggles over fossil fuels. However, it tells a greater story than simple fuel adoption and lifts up a torch of hope and genuine business initiative for us to adopt. The manifesto of a business ploughing “profit” back into the means to create sustainable energy and energy sources with social responsibility. The sensible adoption of a journey away from exploitation to sustainability. A very clear delivery of a workable philosophy, and in truth, a reality we can all see out there in our world today. Thoroughly enjoyed this narrated by the author Dale Vince and ably assisted by Chris Packham in the delivery. Thank you

Awesome

What a guy Dale Vince is. This is eye opening in respect of how simple a green world could be. Highly recommended for environmentalists and sceptics alike.

A great listen. Such an insightful book

Dale vince is clearly a great guy, anyone who follows him knows this.
I really enjoyed listening to his story, it inspired me to buy a van and live on the road myself. The insight into Tesla (musk) I found shocking! There’s 2 sides to every story, but I’d be shocked if that was made up!

Values shared

This is a powerful message and should be central to all political discussion. It melds beautifully the personal with the environmental and ecological and the unsavoury nature of big business and UK politics. May the message of this book increasingly impact on our society, and hopefully before too much damage is done.
