About this listen

Book 2 in the Eisenhorn series.

Inquisitor Eisenhorn must track down and defeat the forces who would destroy him or face the wrath of the Ordo Malleus....

Listen to It Because:

Eisenhorn's back in a classic thriller. What could be cooler than an inquisitor on the run for a crime he didn't commit? Not much. How much is Eisenhorn willing to compromise himself – and his closest friends – and risk his soul for a chance to clear his name?

The Story:

A century after his recovery of the alien Necroteuch, Gregor Eisenhorn is one of the Imperial Inquisition's most celebrated agents. But when a face from his past returns to haunt him, and he is implicated in a great tragedy that devastates the world of Thracian Primaris, Eisenhorn's universe crumbles around him. The daemon Cherubael is back, and seeks to bring the inquisitor to ruin - either by his death, or by turning him to the service of the Dark Gods.

Toby Longworth really stands out to me as an excellent narrator, and his ability to be consistent with both subtle and not so subtle character identities is impressive. The story itself is one of the most iconic set to the Warhammer 40,000 backdrop.

Toby Longworth is an excellent narrator.

Coming from straight after reading the first book, this one had me hooked! once again great performance by Toby Longworth and great story by Dan Abnett. Having familiarity with the characters was what ultimately led me to enjoy this book. off to read the third!

excellent!

Compared with the first, this one is a lot less streamlined. The pacing is jankier, and where the first book had an easy to follow small cast of characters, this one introduces and kills of characters left and right as we move from one pace to the next. In other words it did not draw me in as the first book did.

With that said, the first book of the series was especially good, and a hard act to follow. This one is still easlie above the 40k average(of the 35ish books I have read). I am intrigued enough to read the next, but i do hope for a tighter, and more well oiled story in the next.

The weaker of the two.

A worthy sequel to a fantastic first chapter. with plenty of returning characters and a few new faces as well. Also Caidians, which is always a plus
