Story
All women want to kill their husbands some of the time. "Where there's a will, I intend to be in it", wives half-joke to each other. Marriage, it would appear, is a fun-packed frivolous hobby, only occasionally resulting in death. But when Jazz Jardine is arrested for her husband's murder, the joke falls flat. Life should begin at 40, but not with life imprisonment for killing your spouse.

Story
Tilly has the day from hell when she's sacked from her barristers' chambers in the morning, then finds her husband in bed with her former best friend in the afternoon. She escapes to her mother, Roxy - a sassy solicitor whose outrageous take on men, work, and family life is the despair of her more conventional daughter. Roxy comes up with a radical plan for their future - they'll set up an all-female law firm which will only champion women who have been cheated, put upon, attacked, ripped off, or ruined by the men in their lives.

Editor reviews
The first day out in public with your newborn is a momentous occasion. There's pride, there's nerves, and, for Maddy Wolfe unfortunately, there's being mistakenly arrested for shoplifting. Mad Cows performed sharply by veteran narrator Fiona Macleod, is the comical adventure of a new mother done wrong and her attempts at securing her freedom and protecting her newborn baby. Though the theme is serious, Kathy Lette's witty prose and hilarious characters make this story one full of laughter rather than nerves. Top off your glass of chardonnay and follow Maddy as she navigates a world of cocky ex-lovers, clumsy friends, and inept policemen.
Summary
Maddy Wolfe's first day out with her newborn takes a Kafkaesque turn when she's wrongfully arrested in Harrods for shoplifting. The only person she can turn to is her hot-to-trot ex-lover Alex, who proves himself to be as useful as a solar powered vibrator on a rainy day. When will he realise that a paternity suit is not the latest look in men's leisurewear?
How do you brief a lawyer with a heat-seaking penis that doesn't report to mission control? An why the hell is Maddy's friend Gillian searching for a sperm happy to get egg all over its face?
Critic reviews
"A raucous comic ode to the joys of motherhood." (Publishers Weekly )
"A wit so daring that you¿ll gasp at her bravado before you laugh out loud." (Elle)

Dated and Disappointing
Never read Kathy Lette before and won't again. Granted, perhaps it's just a book that doesn't age well but... I didn't enjoy or warm to a single character! Found them all vile.
Narrotor did nothing for me either.
Just not to my taste at all. Sorry Lette fans.

Brilliant - Laugh Out Loud
What other book might you compare Mad Cows to, and why?
Sequel to Foetal Attraction which is also brilliant. Enjoy all of Kathy Lette's books. Definitely not a run of the mill chick lit.

Think before you buy!!!
I am an avid reader and audible listener. I have never written a review, but felt that on this book I had to. It was very hard to listen to due to the accent of the narrator. I don't even think it was her fault. I think the book was just poorly put together. There was too much English slang run togther, disjointed sections, and unrealistic situations. It was hard to follow. I did alot of backing up and relistening to areas. There were some very funny one liners, but overall I felt like I had to finish the book just because I was in shock. I have never encouraged someone to not buy a book, or to not read, but I will not encourage anyone to buy this one.

I don't recommend
The narrator's voice and annunciation is enough to make me drive off the road. The story was okay. I have listed to much better, but not many worse.

Mad Cows
The characters in this book are all shallow and unlikeable. The plot is REALLY stupid and unbelieveable.
