Story
Ellie Jordan's job is to catch and remove unwanted ghosts. Part detective, part paranormal exterminator, Ellie operates out of Savannah, Georgia - the most haunted city in the United States. When a family contacts her to deal with a disturbing presence in the old mansion they've recently purchased, Ellie first believes it to be a typical, by-the-book specter, a residual haunting by a restless spirit. Instead she finds herself confronting an evil that is older and more powerful than she'd ever expected.

Story
It's been several years since Jess and Hannah Ballard foiled a cataclysmic prophecy that could have destroyed their fellow Durupinen, an ancient clan of women who allow spirits to cross between the worlds of the living and the dead. The girls swore, after the devastation and chaos they endured, they would never get caught up in the inner workings of the Durupinen again. They were wrong.

Summary
Life is more difficult than ever at Savannah's only ghost-hunting detective agency. While Ellie copes with her mentor's departure and other unwelcome developments, she also worries about the supernatural injuries keeping her boyfriend caught in an endless slumber.
At the same time, Ellie and Stacey are called in to investigate an eerie entity haunting a baby's nursery room. The ghost appears late at night, its face barely visible on the baby monitor, and sings a chilling song. Soon, Ellie learns there are more ghosts in the house, and at least one of them is a dangerous, child-hunting monster who must be stopped before it kills again.

You can jump over chapters 4 to 22
After listening to the first 3 chapters I jumped the story to chapter 23 because the story was just pathetic and annoying. In normal civilizations if anyone treated an employee like Nicholas and Carey did in chapter 3 then that employee could claim against then for bullying. Ellie is not a slave nor is she in the army so why take this from them. She is the core of the ghost trapper business so why does she stay when they take over - there is no logic here.
Jumping chapters 4-22 wasn't a problem I don't think as I got the plot explained since there is endless repetition in all these books. I will try the next one but may do the same.
The performance is also awful with a speaking style so laboured as making me want to turn it off often.

Yikes - have read all and this one scared me a lot!
Now maybe it won’t scare you as much, is that I essentially said it will scare you! ;)
I like so much about his writing as well as the narrator.
Side note: in the last book, I did NOT appreciate the two conservative and ridiculous pro-Trump hints: one that makes it obvious the author is a climate change denier, and the other that’s just blatantly pro Trump (I think it was about making America great again or something gross like that). That was super disappointing. I guess not a terrible shock being that the author’a from the South but still...not the smartest move he could have made. I LOVE a good ghost story but lost some respect for him after hearing those two comments. First for his ignorance and second for making such a poor business decision haha. But hey - it’s his prerogative. Blech!

Ellie Jordan’s ghost trapping adventures keep getting better.
I lovee❤️ Ellie’s ghost trapper stories. Each of J. L. Bryan’s books in this series, keep you intrigued & wanting more. I can’ wait to listen to the next one.
Some authors tend to not evolve their books and characters with their series. J. L. Bryan doesn’t do this .

shocker I think it's a case of assault?!?!
I've been following this series from the first book, but I never saw this coming. I've been on the receiving end of ownership changes but this seems to be a big drastic...if it was me I'd be back when I could walk, with a freaking ar-15 and wouldn't even give anyone notice just start spraying. if the Russian bitch could do what she did and I had no defense that might be the only way to solve the problem. this story was cruising along just like most of the books previously, then this one scene just took a DARK turn towards hell! I don't know but it ended unsatisfactory for me, many issues unresolved, but lol I guess it's a cliff hanger?!?!

Stressful dynamics between characters
I listen to this series for its popcorn fantasy appeal...spooky, nothing really terrible ever happens. I didnt enjoy the 'Ellie going up against mean evil corporation people' dynamic. Hopefully the next book has the series go back to normal.

Abusive work environment!
There are no words strong enough for me to express my disappointment on the direction the author has taken with this series. In the past, the books were a fun scare. Now they are a painful experience. The new work environment is abusive...both verbally and physically. Unfortunately I bought this book and the one following so am pressing on in hopes that I will see a return of the original scare factor without the abuse. If I don't, I will delete this author from my "favorite" list.

Same Old stories
I keep hoping the series will eventually start developing its characters and we can see them evolve as people. But sadly it never does. The author is content to just keep writing the same stories over and over. In this book, the plot is even thinner than usual. Half of the book is just repeating the same things we've heard a million times before both in this book and previous ones. How many times do we need to hear that Ellie is haunted by a ghost that killed her parents and burned her house when she was fifteen? You can skip the first two hours of the book. It's just Ellie complaining about the new owners of the company. The rest is the same old story. Multiple hauntings, one good ghost, one evil one, etc... Even the narrator seems bored at times.

Not my favorite
I generally love these books, but really disliked this book. The disharmony and heartless attitude of the new company. I hear it will not continue; or I would not continue these books. Generally the ghost part of the story was good.
