You love your partner. So why does living with their ADHD sometimes leave you feeling more like a parent than a partner?

Maybe you’re the one remembering the appointments, paying the bills, keeping track of the household, finishing forgotten tasks and carrying the invisible mental load.

You’ve tried reminders. Lists. Shared calendars. Calm conversations. Serious conversations. Arguments. Promises to do things differently.

And somehow, you still end up carrying more than your share.

Loving Someone with ADHD is a practical relationship guide written specifically for the non-ADHD partner who loves someone with ADHD but is exhausted by the patterns that can develop around it.

This isn’t about blaming your partner or trying to “fix” their ADHD. And it isn’t another relationship book telling you to simply be more patient.

Instead, it helps you understand how ADHD affects relationships— including executive dysfunction, time blindness, working memory difficulties, emotional dysregulation, hyperfocus and rejection sensitivity— while recognising an equally important truth:

ADHD can explain behaviour without erasing its impact on you.

When forgotten responsibilities, unfinished tasks and repeated reminders become part of everyday life, couples can gradually fall into a damaging parent-child relationship dynamic. One person becomes the organiser, reminder and rescuer while the other increasingly feels managed, criticised or inadequate.

This book shows you how to begin changing that dynamic and become partners again.

Inside, you'll discover how to:

  • Understand what ADHD behaviour actually means— and stop taking every forgotten task or missed commitment personally
  • Recognise and break the ADHD parent-child dynamic before resentment takes over
  • Set healthy boundaries with an ADHD partner without drowning in guilt
  • Stop rescuing and allow appropriate consequences without becoming cold or uncaring

The relatability of the ordinary hardships is what I found most appealing about this audiobook. The book does a wonderful job of outlining these patterns without just placing blame on either spouse. Relationship irritation can be gradually increased by persistent reminders, neglected responsibilities, and mental strain.

The fact that it emphasizes doable strategies for reestablishing partnerships rather than relying on one person to solve all problems is something else I found appealing. For couples attempting to understand one another while still attending to their own needs, the conversation about boundaries, resentment, and the parent-child dynamic seems particularly helpful.

Very practical approach!

A really useful book for anyone in a relationship with someone who has ADHD. I liked that it explains the reasons behind some of the behaviour while still recognising how frustrating the impact can be on the other partner. The advice around boundaries, resentment and the parent-child dynamic is practical and easy to understand.

I appreciated that this guide considers the experience of the non-ADHD partner without turning ADHD into something to blame. It explains how things like time blindness, executive dysfunction, forgetfulness, and emotional regulation can affect everyday responsibilities and communication. The discussion of the parent-child dynamic and mental load especially stood out. The focus on boundaries, shared responsibility, and breaking unhealthy patterns feels practical and balanced. A helpful listen for couples who want to better understand how ADHD affects their relationship and find healthier ways to work as a team.

Overall, this was a really good audiobook. It covers all the basic struggles like forgotten tasks, messy schedules, and communication breakdown. The ideas are very practical, though a few felt a bit familiar. Still, having everything organized in one place was super helpful for my brain. The audio quality is crisp and easy to listen to while driving. I’d definitely suggest giving it a try if you feel totally lost.

Good solid helper
