Summary

What started as a misunderstanding grew into friendship! What happens when friends become lovers…the story unfolds.

Miss Elizabeth Bennet befriends Miss Anne de Bourgh, a wealthy heiress. Elizabeth has no fortune, no connections - nothing to recommend her except her wit and charm and her good nature. She agrees to aid Anne in her quest to secure a marriage proposal from her haughty, aristocratic cousin, Fitzwilliam Darcy of Pemberley and Derbyshire. How could Elizabeth know the gentleman has his heart set upon another? Darcy barely acknowledges his cousin's existence. He knows what his family expects of him, but he never suspected that Anne harbored those foolish hopes. He only has eyes for Elizabeth, the charming and witty young woman he mistakenly believes is expecting an offer of marriage. Truth be told, Elizabeth does not even like the proud man - at least, not in the beginning.

Love Will Grow is a Regency historical-fiction adaptation of Jane Austen's timeless classic, Pride and Prejudice.

Enjoyable Variation

What did you like best about this story?

On my daily 1+ hour commute to work this lovely audiobook by PO Dixon was a nice distraction for a couple of days. Dixon's portrayal of Darcy and Elizabeth are comforting and always pleasant. She is repeatedly able to capture the thrill of Pride and Prejudice, while changing the plot ever so slightly each time. In this creation Ann enlists the help of Elizabeth to help capture her cousin Darcy as a husband. At first the task is easy because Elizabeth has no inclination of falling for Mr. Darcy; however, things progress naturally and Elizabeth is left weighing the happiness of her friend against her own.

Narrated by Pearl Hewitt, I thought she did a decent job. Some of her voices were a bit comical, but it was all good and moved a good pace. I read very fast, so sometimes when listening to audiobooks I get bored because they read so slow its frustrating, but this was not the case. I enjoyed her story, just as always.

What happens when Anne feels differently about Darcy?

This audiobook gives you the great pleasure of a story where Anne isn't an uninterested wallflower. This is a very good book for a summer afternoon, not too long and not too short. It checks off all the wonderful boxes a variation of Pride and Prejudice should. I very much enjoyed and recommend it.

A Wonder to Hear Darcy and Elizabeth talk to me

Having purchased my first P.O. Dixon book in 2011, I am a fan! P. O.Dixon makes her stories unique by having different characters express their point of view. Often a twist is introduced to confound the principals. Imagine Anne waiting for Darcy to propose, Darcy assuming he knows what Anne thinks. Elizabeth becoming friends with Anne even though she dislikes her betrothed. What troubles await our friends. I first read Love Will Grow in 2013 on my kindle. I was overjoyed when I received the audiobook from the author.
Pearl Hewitt’s narration brought the characters to life.Mrs. Bennet came into my reading room with her shrill voice, polite manipulations, and her remonstrances made me laugh. Anne deBourgh sounded weak yet their was hope in her voice. Elizabeth laughed, was witty yet at times discouraged. Mr. Darcy was confident, arrogant and then devastated. Although I knew the plot from having reread the novel several times,I was swept up in the tale told by the voices of the characters.

I am excited that Audible has opened their selections to include my P & P variation novels. Having a visual disability due to advanced glaucoma I rely on Books for the Blind. Their library has a limited selection of Variations on Pride and Prejudice which is very understandable.

Delightful Pride and Prejudice Variation!

This Pride and Prejudice variation begins during Lizzy's visit to Kent, right after she plays the pianoforte for an enraptured Darcy. Anne de Bourgh, in love with Darcy for as long as she can remember, enlists Lizzy's help in securing a marriage proposal from Darcy. Anne recognizes Darcy's admiration for Lizzy, but believes her cousin would never marry a woman with no fortune.

Anne's admiration and defense of Darcy makes Lizzy realize just how mistaken she's been about the proud man. She agrees to help Anne, but her conversations with Darcy don't go as she planned. He seems to be admiring a very different person, Lizzy herself!

This variation was a cute mishmash of new scenes, scenes from the book, and the 2005 movie. The beginning was very dialogue driven and I loved all the new interactions between the couple. There were so many perfect scenes, when they were trapped in the parsonage, the rainy temple proposal, not to mention that ending! My favorite variations have chapters from both Lizzy and Darcy's point of view, and this one includes Anne's as well.

Oh my goodness, what a dreamy Darcy this was! Eloquent and passionate, demonstrative and romantic. He was so perfect with Lizzy, although he could have been nicer to poor Anne! I loved the strong friendship between Anne and Lizzy, a rare mature female friendship. Overall, it was a great variation that added some new elements to the story.

Pearl Hewitt did an excellent job with the narration, she has a pleasant speaking voice that immersed me in the narration. She performed distinct speaking voices for each character and performed dramatically when necessary. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

Good read

Any additional comments?

Love Will Grow by P.O. Dixon was a good read. Elizabeth Bennet aids a wealthy heiress in her attempt to obtain a marriage proposal from Fitzwilliam Darcy. In a definite turn, Fitzwilliam finds himself falling for Elizabeth.
