We all have that one person who we know are meant just for us. The one who we tell our innermost secrets to, share our joy, every triumph, every loss, every fail with. That doesn't always mean that we get to be with them, but it is a driving force that keeps us pressing forward, trying to conquer the unconquerable, always searching for ways to beat the odds. Story
Sneaking out of the palace wasn’t one of Aniri’s best ideas. But she’s the third daughter of the Queen of Dharia - zero responsibilities and zero royal duties. She’s just the backup daughter, in case her older sisters’ arranged marriages - to take the crown or broker an alliance - don’t quite work out. But once Aniri reaches her 18th birthday, she’ll be truly free...and then she can marry the charming fencing instructor she meets for fevered kisses in the forest. But then the impossible happens - a marriage proposal. From a barbarian prince in the north, no less.

Clean romance
It took me a while to get into this book but once it got going I was glued to it. I liked the characters and the twist!
This is the third book in the series but it could be read as a stand alone.

DNF
Why did the introduction repeat twice, like that was not necessary.
The way that Toby was wanting to walk around with Amelia , who he just met and didn’t really know, is just odd. Amelia seemed to be visiting the area, so why go off with a stranger.
That’s just not great, hence a DNF.

Very unusual paranormal
I had no idea where this story was going & was still in the dark until almost the last chapter. I have never encountered such an idea as Ms. Burton has in this story. It certainly gives a person food for thought. I really liked Ms. Haugen's voice as she read it.
I received a free copy from the author. This is my voluntary opinion.

Clean, unique paranormal romance
Story: 4.5 stars overall (5 stars for the idea/concept and minus 1/2 star for the proofing/verbiage errors that threw me out of this book.)
This story idea was really cool and in the first half of the book, the author successfully captures a surreal feeling , which is perfect for what is happening to the characters.
The second half is treated very realistically and I like that none of the steps in the process of healing physically and mentally were glossed over. Especially Amelia’s depression near the end of the book.
That said, there were grammatical issues and British vs. American verbiage problems. Those kept throwing me out of the book and kind of ruining it for me. (I’m kind of a stickler about a well-proofed story.)
Narrator: 2.5 stars overall (3 stars for narration minus 1/2 star for a number of mispronunciations)
Ms. Hayden is a decent narrator. I think she’d be wonderful reading a purely American-accented story. Her voice is lovely and her inflections and timing are good.
Unfortunately, one of the main characters in this book is British. I respect Ms. Hayden for not attempting an accent she perhaps didn’t feel comfortable with, but it threw me out of the book over and over again when Amelia’s British life is constantly referred to, but she speaks with an American accent.

Great story
It took me awhile to get into the story. something was not normal but what was different. you will see.
A very different love story or at least the world it happens in.
The book is totally worth the time listening to. The only thing I had to do to enjoy it was speeding up the narrator she was to slow for me or something.
Give the story a chance even if you think it's confusing in the beginning it will all be clear soon and if you don't figure it out yourself it will be.
The author has great idea for this story and work's it well.
the narrator is good if you speed her up a little 1.15 worked for me.

Very Interesting Story and Enjoyable Read/Listen
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This story is very different from the other books by this author. There was so much story in this dreamy experience with Amelia and Toby. Could not put this audiobook down until the end. What a beautiful YA story. The twist in the end is not expected. The author tied it all together for a great conclusion. The narrator did a great job with the characters.

I started listening to this book without reading the description. I have to admit I was confused in the beginning, but then things began to fall into place. I loved the concept of this story. I have not read anything like this before. Would recommend the book. Clean romance.
