Even if she had, she might not have called him ‘the one that got away’; after all, she’d been the one to run. Then Dan’s name pops up on her phone, with a link to a song from their shared past. For two blissful minutes, Alison is no longer an adult in Adelaide with temperamental daughters; she is 16 in Sheffield, dancing in her skin-tight jeans. She cannot help but respond in kind.

- By Jenny Vidler on 13-11-20
Summary
There are are three things you need to know about Sandra Fielding: 1) She makes all her first dates cry, 2) She hasn't been kissed in over two years, and 3) She knows how to knit.
Sandra has difficulty removing her psychotherapist hat. Of her last 30 dates, 29 have ended the same way: the man sobbing uncontrollably. After one such disaster, Sandra--near desperation and maybe a little tipsy--gives in to a seemingly harmless encounter with her hot waiter, Alex. Argumentative, secretive, and hostile Alex may be the opposite of everything Sandra knows is right for her. But now, the girl who has spent all her life helping others change for the better, must find a way to cope with falling for someone who refuses to change at all.

Lovely
This is the darkest of the series. Sandra throughout the other books is a bit loud and not as sweet as the other women. After this book she became one of my favourite of the knitters. What a story! Younger man (a virgin at that) with an older woman : a fantasy come true. Not as one sided as you would think & Alex is in many ways more mature than Sandra. A lovely story

Joyful. Heart breaking, funny, beautiful
I think it’s impossible not to fall in love with Penny Reid’s characters. Each book of hers I’ve enjoyed, I’ve thought this is it, the pinnacle yet the next one superseded the previous one. I laughed , cried, swooned and shouted at my car stereo - frequently. It’s so moving it’s not possible not to get involved. Wonderful!

Couldn't be better
I love Penny Reid’s books but had avoided this one because the idea of a realistic romance between a 21 year old waiter (also a virgin!) and a 28 year old Psychiatrist did not ring true. How wrong I was!
It shows the immense skill of Penny Reid’s writing that she can start with two characters who are, on the surface, so mismatched, and yet at the end she has woven a deep and convincing connection between them. The book, and the characters, unfold in layer after layer so that the reader comes to the gradual realisation that these two are a perfect match for each other. The romance, at the start of the book, seems simplistic: A deeply damaged young man craves the love of a stable and well-adjusted woman, but as the story develops you come to realise that this woman has her own problems - in dealing with the problems of others, she has allowed her own happiness and well-being to be sacrificed. This damaged man is the only one who really sees this and understands, finally, that she needs him just as much as he needs her. His background and upbringing make him so much older than his years, so he is far from a typical 21 yr old, and although the story is told from the h’s point of view, in the epilogue we hear from the H and it beautifully explains the romance from his perspective, which adds a whole new facet to the story.
This is a touching and emotional love story, that is by no means simple to understand or easy to accept, both to the reader, and to the couple involved. It does involve a rather complicated sub-plot concerning computer hacking and various government agencies but this adds well to the plot, and to the understanding of the characters and issues involved.
A special mention must be made of the narrator who did not have an easy job. This book was truly a record of someone's thoughts and feelings, along with their internal dialogue, which was not always simple to recite! The narration was perfect, and added much to the quality of the listening.

Love hacked, Sandra and Alex's story
Love Hacked is my favourite book by Penny Reid, and when the audiobook was released I decided to give it a go, because why not find new ways to enjoy my favourite author? I really liked the narrator as well, it's a bit strange to hear well known characters in someone else's voice after having had them in your head, but I quickly got used to it and I think she did an excellent job!

SOOOOOOO SLOW
This book was so boring. I have read book 1, book 1.5, and 2 and this is by far the worst. Sandra is funny in the previous books but in her featured book she is completely dull.
I'm also not sure I can handle listening to any more of these books. The main characters are sooooooo whiny and I hate that so far the women end up with cold, controlling, manipulative men. I'm not trying to be that annoying feminist, but can we show that these women can choose a good man that doesn't play games with them or toss them around? It really annoys me that these women grow weak over these dull, lifeless, and not so nice men. These men are not sexy and mysterious, these men are annoying and controlling. Ok, rant over about that.
Also, omg that "zing!" will be the death of me. Around 1 hour if not more is just her describing her sexual encounters with him - it got annoying. I had to fast forward through it.

Penny did it again
I wasn't fully sold on Sandra as a character in the first few books of this series. Penny opened Sandra up in Love Hacked. You see the vulnerability, flaws, strength, and love that makes up Sandra. She turned her into my 2nd favorite character so far (no one will ever replace Janie in my heart).
Also the narrator is perfect. I heard an interview of Penny recently that explains the process of choosing her narrators. Penny does a fantastic job of selecting the perfect narrator for her character.

Once this book started it didn't slow down. It kept my attention all the way through and I didn't want it to end! Would love another book when/if they start a family. Very insightful and smart characters. Can't wait for the next book but this book set the bar high for the rest of the knitters stories.

Love the story but...
I love this story. I've read and enjoyed it before buying it in audiobook form. The story gets five stars.
The narration, however, gets two stars due to the annoying accent, which is unfortunately making what should be a fun, relaxing listen an exercise in surviving torture.

Fun series! Quirky and really funny!
Fun series! Quirky and really funny!
Alex is a waiter and (former?) hacker dealing with some government agencies who are constantly watching him. He isn't looking for a relationship, just trying to get by.
“I’m jealous,” he finally said. “I want to find Devon and kill him.” “Kill him? Really?” “No.” Alex glanced at the ceiling. He leaned against the door behind him. His voice was still a growl, but the surge of testosterone had visibly deflated—just a smidge. “But I would like to beat him up a little. Or maybe ruin his credit score.”
Sandra is tired of her serial dating scene where she just ends up analyzing her date, making him cry, then becoming friends. But she doesn't think Alex who is too young and too mysterious is right for her either.
“Twenty-one? He was only twenty-one. Therefore, he had the stamina of a twenty-one year old. Yay me! and Holy sh*t"
Awesome audiobook!! A great listen!
