Summary
Poets, philosophers and artists have been trying to explain romantic love for centuries, but it remains one of the most complex and intimidating terrains to navigate. Most people are afraid to be open and honest about their relationships...until now.
For We Need To Talk About Love, Laura Mucha has interviewed hundreds of strangers, from the ages of 8 to 95 in more than 40 countries, asking them to share their most personal stories, feelings and insights about love. These intimate and illuminating conversations raised important questions, such as:
- How does your upbringing influence your relationships?
- Does love at first sight exist? Should you 'just know'?
- What should you look for in a partner?
- Is monogamy natural?
- Why do people cheat?
- How do you know when it's time to walk away?
Drawing on psychology, philosophy, anthropology and statistics, We Need To Talk About Love combines evidence, theory and everyday experience and is the perfect listen for anyone who is curious about how we think, feel and behave when it comes to love.

Scientific look at love
I try to learn about anything that I want to improve on in life. Love is always the untouched aspect tho as romantic notions and hearsay seem to be everything people depend on when it comes to their beliefs about love. Laura Mucha cites endless studies interspersed with personal stories of people she interviewed to try to analyse aspects such as dating, cheating and bereavement. I was hoping more about the dating aspect as to how to best go on about it as this was personally important for me at this time. A lot of the book focuses on divorce and even marital abuse so it might be a little more interesting with someone with a history of relationships and complications. For someone young like me, the concept of attachment styles was my biggest take-away that I’ll research further.
The stories are brilliantly narrated and the author vividly brings characters to life with her intonation and voice.
The book was overall valuable and very easy to listen to and I recommend it to most people who are interested in commitment.

Very thought provoking
I’m a bloke (listening under my wife’s name) and I did not think this book would be of interest to me, but I was very wrong. It turns out love is something we all have experience of in some way, and, when you start exploring it, you have a strong opinion on it. This is a thought provoking and factual account of the most important part of the human condition. We could all do with reading this and learning a bit more about ourselves.
Well written, and, very well read.

Understanding love
I bought the book for Valentine’s day then ended up listening to it on audible and absolutely loved it!
It has really given me insight into different kinds of love and how so many people think & feel about the subject.
The way we love, or avoid love has so much to do with our upbringing or past relationships.
I now know why I act the way I do in certain relationships.
I have found it fascinating!
Thank you Laura

Interesting, informative. Highly recommended.
What a useful, interesting audio book. I have learnt so much - about my relationship, what may have gone wrong in the past, and what I can do to improve relationships in the future. Also I loved the balance between the hard facts on love and the interviews from real people on their experiences and opinions on love. The mix brings something very special and unique to this book. The author is very easy to listen to - she is animated and clear. Overall, highly recommended.

A Fantastic Insight into Relationships
I downloaded this book after listening to an interview of the author on a podcast and left wanting more. The book totally lived up to expectations and I would recommend everyone to read it. It's a wonderful insight into our behaviours, relationships and the reasons behind them.

Phenomenal
This is excellent and a must read for relationships, self-awareness, love and to better understand your own trauma. It really opened my eyes to my own issues and how best to take responsibility for them as we should all do.

a confusing listen
I struggled to finish this.
Part of the problem is how difficult it is to tell when the reader is reading in the author's voice or in the voice of one of the much-quoted research participants.
Is there rigour to the research (like that done by Brene Brown) or is it cherry-picked quotes from the participants?
I did learn some interesting things but mostly I was confused and frustrated.

Should be required reading for all humans
So interesting and fun to listen to. It cuts through the tangle of the subject of love with facts and great story telling. Great if you’re trying to make decisions about your own love life! Also nice that it is read by the author.
