Story
For Remi St. James, It started with the blackouts. Then the vivid nightmares. That’s nothing compared to waking up naked, alone in a forest with no recollection of how she got there. Scary as hell, but what she discovers is far worse. Remi was changing into something more - something supernatural. After coming to terms with what she is, Remi starts school at the Gladwell Academy of Shifters, an exclusive and secretive college designed to awaken those with extraordinary abilities. Remi meets Laith Brighton, an impossibly hot, mountain-lion shifter who's also an irresistible jerk.

Story
Maddison James is about to discover some truths about the world. Firstly...supernaturals exist. WTF? Secondly...she is one, even though no one seems to know exactly what kind. Double WTF. Thirdly...she’s about to go back to school. Well, things just got a little more interesting. The Supernatural Academy is where shifters, vampires, magic users, and fey are educated. Where they are taught about their abilities, and how to function in the human world. Maddison already has the human part down, but this supernatural thing is an entirely new dangerous game.

Welcome to Darkblood - oops, I mean Darkhen Academy. There are three rules to survive the elite supernatural school: Do not talk or even look at The Seven, the uber-powerful supes that rule the academy. Never go into the Fae forest on a full moon...or else. And most definitely do not fall for one of the extremely hot and unattainable instructors. Too bad I’ve never really been a rule follower...If word gets out that humans are no longer safe from the supes, our worlds will once again be closed off. It’s up to us to stop that from happening.

I thought I had it bad - living in my dead Dad’s old hunting blind in the woods, barely staying alive on apples and ramen...that was before the storm hit and destroyed the only form of shelter I had left. Enter, Jared. The hottest - and most unavailable - guy at school. Except he wasn’t Jared when he pulled me out of the mud. He wasn’t even human. As if that wasn’t unsettling enough, when he brought me back to his cabin, I found he wasn’t alone. Another guy, one I’d only ever heard about in whispers beneath the bleachers, was there too.

For years, I've been kept prisoner by my uncle, hidden like a piece of trash in the basement of his house. Beaten, broken, neglected, and hated by him for reasons I can't even understand. But one night, on the back roads of rural Montana, I see a chance for escape. And I take it. I run...straight into the arms of a naked man. No. Not a man. A wolf.

By the time I walk through the doors of the academy, where the born shifters of every pack are trained to fight and lead, I’m famous. Infamous? One of those. I’ve already fought a battle or two. And my family’s complicated relationships with magic, which has been long forbidden to wolves, isn’t popular with all the packs. I guess I should’ve said this is the place for born male shifters. There aren’t a lot of shifters like me, with flat irons and skinny jeans packed in their bags.

They are beings with no flaws, divine creatures with power sparking at their fingertips. A race so exceptional that it feels almost forbidden to think about them, especially for someone like me. I’m Rosadette Campbell, a seventeen-year-old girl who has nothing in common with those divine, worshiped beings. No, I’m a human - at least, that’s how we refer to ourselves. We pretend not to hear the litany of degrading slurs other races use to describe our kind. We were the dominant species once, but now we’re considered little more than rats.

Tense and absorbing continuation of the series
“He wants to keep you close so you don’t rise up against him. And he wants to end Gladwell Academy. This is the only shifter school that has ever had its own Seer, Remi. That has allowed us to maintain a certain level of independence all these years.” Following the adoption, Remi and Belhollow bond during their vacation in the Outer Banks in North Carolina. While Remi finally begins to feels a sense of belonging, Belhollow revels in motherhood. Life seems perfect but for the strange nightmares that plague Remi’s sleep. When Laith and Dean Mardone fail to arrive on their flight from India, Remi fears the worst. Her sense of foreboding goes into overdrive, however, when they return to Therian Hall to find the Academy on lockdown and non other than Declan Helm himself, awaiting their arrival. In a tense stand-off between Declan and Belhollow, shocking revelations come to light regarding Belhollow’s past which threatens the fragile emotional bond between mother and daughter. Lost Alumni is the fourth instalment of the compelling Academy of Shifters series. Once again the author stepped up her game in what was a tense, edge of your seat instalment. Although little progress was made plot wise, this instalment is crucial in that we meet the nefarious Declan Helms and are given insight into Belhollow’s past. After the jaw dropping revelations of the previous book, I didn’t expect the author to still have so many shocks up her sleeve. The author has deftly managed to push everyone of my reading buttons with her outstanding character development and this book was no exception. The author really ramped up the emotional level which had me agonising over the threat to Remi’s new found happiness with Belhollow. Declan Helms is a particularly nasty villain and the scenes between him and Belhollow positively crackled with tension. Thankfully Winter and Hickoree provided a few light relief moments when the book threatened to become too dark. All in all this was a well executed, suspenseful addition to the series, powered by adept character development and relentless pacing. The whopping cliffhanger at the end has ensured that this reader will be eagerly anticipating the follow up. I received an advanced free audible copy of the Lost Alumni and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Once again the narrator did a great job in bringing the characters and story to life with her clear, concise delivery.

Academy of Shifters book 4
This is the fourth book in this series. Remi is learning what her own abilities and responsibilities are but is still trying to discover the growing mysterys and work out the truths. I have enjoyed listening to the story and it is building up more and more with twists in it. I am looking forward to finding out what happens next and what more secrets will be revealed.

More secrets
More secrets....Some answers. The narration was good but when she said a chapter it pulled me out of the story. It was a bit robotic. The narration for everything else was good. Remi was extra whiny in this book. It really bothered me that she acted like a toddler. Some secrets being revealed helped move the story along. I want to know all the answers so I will read the next book.

Shifting secrets
This newest addition to the series was quite an experience in adventure, mystery and emotions. Remi meets her brother again, learns some surprising secrets and has to make some difficult decisions. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life as told from the perspective of Remi. She had unique voices for each character so you could easily follow the story. What will Remi decide to do about the latest discovery? Read /listen to the next book to find out!
