Summary

Ian Carmichael stars as Lord Peter Wimsey in these classic BBC radio dramatisations of Dorothy L Sayers' Golden Age crime novels.

Gentleman detective Lord Peter Wimsey starred in a number of novels and short stories by Dorothy L Sayers. These full-cast adaptations – first broadcast on BBC radio between 1979 and 2010 – are cherished by crime aficionados worldwide.

Murder Must Advertise sees Lord Peter going undercover in an advertising agency to investigate the death of a copywriter.

The Nine Tailors finds the aristocratic detective stranded in a remote village, where he is drawn into a case of stolen jewels and an unidentified body.

Gaudy Night takes place at Harriet Vane’s old Oxford college, where a series of spiteful pranks and poison-pen letters have torn apart the academic community. With Lord Peter’s help, can she uncover the perpetrator?

In Busman’s Honeymoon, newlyweds Harriet and Peter have their marital bliss disturbed by a body in the basement – and are once again embroiled in a murder investigation.

These evocative dramas also feature Allan Cuthbertson, Peter Jones, Joanna David and Sarah Badel.

I didn't listen in Vane!😋

The third - and, to the best of my knowledge, final - collection of these vintage BBC Radio dramatisations of Dorothy L. Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey-Harriet Vane stories is, quite possibly, the best of them all. Heartily recommended to all lovers of 'golden age' detective fiction - and to anyone else with an enquiring mind.

The Lord Peter Wimsey

Ian Carmichael is Lord Peter Wimsey as far as I'm concerned. This dramatization brings the books to life and now I cannot read them without hearing the voices of this cast. Maybe not for everyone but I really enjoyed it.

Cozy crime mysteries but what is it with the music

Loved everything about these audio books but the BBC style of beginning and ending and music is really breaking the flow of the stories. Can we please cut the music out?

Details

Great collection and very well performed, but. what a pity audible don't provide any info as to where each story starts e.g. a chapter number. I often want to listen to a particular story, and then have to search for it among the chapters, not easy if you are short on time. Little details like this make a difference.

What a jolly romp!

fantastic well acted and entertaining. take a step vack in time and enjoy these sleuthing escapades of Lord Peter Whimey played exceptionally bt Ian Carmichael. Interesting to hear all the young actors such as Kenneth Cranham performing too.
