Summary

Thirteenth century. Wales and England. To young Gruffyd, life has been unkind. Eking out a meagre living with his father, he has learned very quickly how to look after himself in the hostile borderlands. His father, an archer, has taught him well, and at 17 Gruffyd is a keen and able bowman. Young, loyal and skilled, it’s not long before Gruffyd finds himself following in his father’s footsteps, working as an archer in the bordering castle. But tragedy strikes when his lord commits a devastating deed, and Gruffyd is forced to make a life altering decision. This is the story of a young archer’s riotous journey from avenging outlaw to merchant’s bodyguard to, finally, the captain of archers for the heir to the throne.

"Medieval adventure with the pace and power of a war arrow in flight. Griff Hosker has sold over a million books and I can see why!" (Matthew Harffy)

amazing story well narrated, but beware read below

Great sorry with a skilled narrator who add a great deal to the story. Unfortunately the next in the series is very poorly narrated and I don't know if I can stand it enough to continue! I have looked ahead further and they have continued with this awful narrator for several other titles in this series so you can not simply skip this one!

Good story

Remembering who is who with old English naming style takes a while to get used to but it does not distract from the story line.

Fast Paced

Warbow is a great character and the plot, poor outlaw archer makes good, clips along apace. The narration is excellent and draws the reader in. Throughly enjoyed it.

Unexpected

Loved the story and learning the history of the era. An unexpected find and a pleasure to listen too. Marston York read it superbly with a good range of British accents and voices that helped draw you into the tale.
Learning about the life and skill of the British bowmen was interesting and had obviously been well researched by Griff Hosker.
I will be keeping a sharp eye out for more by mister Hosker and mister York.
A great book

Not bad, not great

An enjoyable book set in an unfamiliar period to me so interesting politics. The narration is rather low key and so none of the characters really stood out but he makes a better fist of a variety of accents than many narrators.
