Story
Mystifyingly, 37.9 million visit England each year. Why? There’s basically nothing here. What are they looking for, and what do they find? Dom decides to try to find out. To do something he’d never considered before: to treat England as he would any other country. Surely there’s more to England than a slightly dull, green and pleasant land. Surely, it’s not just fish and chips, Shakespeare and the queen. Is it?

Story
In 2004 Dom Joly wrote a spoof autobiography called Look At Me, Look At Me. In Here Comes the Clown, he takes up the story of his life from 14 January 2000 when the very first episode of Trigger Happy TV aired on Channel 4 and everything changed for him. Suddenly he was famous; reality was weirder than any fiction he could conjure up. This is the story of what happened next, through snippets of recollections from his adventures in show business....

Story
Dom Joly was born in Beirut and lived there until he was 18. He lived through the civil war, went to school with Osama Bin Laden, and learned to ski. At the age of seven he was sent to an English boarding school. It was a schizophrenic existence. Dom's parents divorced when he was 18, and he moved permanently to the UK, becoming a diplomat, a political journalist and then famous as a man who dressed as a giant squirrel. He has been back to Lebanon only twice since. Then he read about an attempt to encourage tourism in this long-suffering country: The Lebanon Mountain Trail.

Story
Ever since he can remember, Dom Joly has been fascinated by travel to odd places. In part this stems from a childhood spent in war-torn Lebanon, where instead of swapping marbles in the schoolyard, he had a shrapnel collection - the schoolboy currency of Beirut. Dom's upbringing was interspersed with terrifying days and nights spent hunkered in the family basement under Syrian rocket attack or coming across a pile of severed heads from a sectarian execution in the pine forests near his home.

Story
If I'm going to tell the story of a life, my life, then I need to tell it warts and all. If the tale is too saccharine sweet then what can the reader take away from it? What do they learn about you? I've written everything down. The shit, the death, fun, naughtiness, addiction, laughter, laughter, laughter, some tears and lots of love and happiness. That, to me, is a better reflection of a human's life.

David Mitchell’s 2014 best seller Thinking About It Only Makes It Worse must really have made people think - because everything’s got worse. We’ve gone from UKIP surge to Brexit shambles, from horsemeat in lasagne to Donald Trump in the White House, from Woolworths going under to all the other shops going under. It’s probably socially irresponsible even to try to cheer up.

After an incredibly gruelling four hours of study, he got his certificate of completion from The Ruislip College of Advansed Learning (sic).

At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition. Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece.

Summary
At last in audio - Dom Joly's no holds barred autobiography of a man with the ego of Napoleon and the talent of Darren Day with a brand new exclusive introduction. Dom Joly reveals how he murdered his Armenian nanny before his second birthday, how as a student he inadvertently gave Kurt Cobain the inspiration for 'Smells like Teen Spirit', how as a producer for ITN he mistook John Major for a large lizard, and how after being raped by a TV weathergirl the scandal was hushed up and Trigger Happy TV was born.
Dom Joly promises many other sensational revelations involving fellow celebrities including Vanessa Feltz, Peter Mandelson and Uday Hussein and many others yet to be identified.

I wanted it to be true
Would you listen to Look at ME, Look at ME! again? Why?
Dom Joly's fake autobiography is full of far too credible tall tales that had me laughing out loud on more than one occasion. I think where he really nailed it though is by mixing in just enough reality with fantasy such that it's impossible for me to tell where the truth ends. I have to admit, when I started listening, I didn't know it was fiction. I hope more of it is true than I believe.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Look at ME, Look at ME!?
Dom Joly: anarchist, spy, journalist and fool. Every twist is unexpected and amusing.
What does Dom Joly bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Dom's accents would doubtless not be attempted by a professional actor.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This book definitely made me laugh.
Any additional comments?
Perhaps not quite as good as his travel books, but excellent in its own right.

think guy should stick to writing travel books(of which his travel books are quite good), this book is terrible, only listened to it all as paid for it. Can't really emphasise how crap this book is, it's not funny....you would be better finding an old phone book and making your way through it.

Glad I stuck with it
I wasn't sure what to expect and nearly gave up after the first chapter. Glad I stuck with it though. Listening to it read by the man himself, I'm sure, added to it. He is so convincing - a lot of it must be based on things he's seen and heard, even if they didn't happen to him. A lot of stuff about human nature which is what makes it really interesting, funny and sad at times.

What a big disappointment !
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
After listening to both of Dom Joly's other books which were both excellent, I had high hopes for this one. Sadly I was very disappointed, whilst Doms narration was very good, the story I found very lack lustre. I was not gripped at all by this book. and did not find this funny at all.

Somewhat wonderful
Dom was always 'that guy with the phone' until I picked up The Dark Tourist (which I enjoyed). Was a bit concerned that it that was a random fluke, but no, I also loved this.
It's a somewhat novel concept for a book - an autobiography enhanced with out-rigtht whimsy and down-right untruths in an effort to enhance the readers enjoyment.
Works beautifully, and I wish a few more writers would use this to gloss over the duller parts of their lives.

Hmmm Disappointing
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
As an autobiography, it is hard to tell what is wild fiction from the fact. There are bits that are laugh-out-loud funny, but I felt it turned vexing and turned readers off the main character by the end.
What could Dom Joly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It felt rushed at the end, it skipped large sections of time, brushed over developments so you started to feel disconnected from the subject. Felt quite 'quick quick, high and mighty' in the end which, if it were meant to in an amusing way, failed to set the scene enough to let the readers in on joke. Instead, alienated and quiet turned me off wanting to support any further work.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Dom Joly?
I was excited to see so many audio books available but after listening to this one, my opinion so lowered, no, I will no pay to listen to another and dont think I will look at his work in the same light again.

Funny and Surreal in places
If you’re looking for a serious factual first person autobiography, then this book may not work for you. Dom Joly has certainly used his real life as a foundation but has also injected considerable wit, artistic license, and lies. Yes, he’s going to lie to you.
As long as you understand that going in, then there is a lot to enjoy and some genuine laugh out loud moments. A lot of entertainment well presented by the author.
