Summary
Su invito del professor Montague, intenzionato ad indagare e catalogare i fenomeni dentro la sinistra Hill House, tre giovani, scelti non a caso, si ritrovano a coesistere per una settimana nell'oscura dimora.
Eleanor, giovane infelice, quando era molto piccola, è stata protagonista di una manifestazione di un poltergeist; Theodora è in possesso di facoltà incredibili, che vanno dalla premonizione alla telepatia; Luke nipote della vecchia proprietaria di Hill House è incaricato di rappresentare la famiglia Sanderson durante l'esperimento.
Ma la vera protagonista della storia è naturalmente la vecchia casa: un posto claustrofobico, infestato, dotato di vita propria, da incubo appunto.
