Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The thrilling autobiography of the astronaut who inspired a generation.

The number one best-selling author of Hello, Is This Planet Earth? and Ask an Astronaut.

‘I looked down below my feet and suddenly noticed Australia flashing by. The vertigo hit me then. My gloved hands gripped the handrail as tightly as I could. I had been on my spacewalk for over an hour. I had trained for this moment for years. But nothing can prepare you for that feeling, for the full realisation that you are no longer living on Earth. Staring into the inky blackness, I felt completely isolated from everything and everyone I had ever known. And yet at the same time I could not help feeling a strange sense of belonging.'

In fascinating and personal detail, and based on exclusive diaries and audio recordings from his mission, Tim Peake takes listeners closer than ever before to experience what life in space is really like: the sacrifice that astronauts make in being apart from their families, the sights, the smells, the fear, the exhilaration and the deep and abiding wonder of the view from space. Limitless is a book about the power of following our dreams - however unlikely they may seem - and of striving to reach our potential, even when we might not believe in it ourselves.

Limitless also charts Peake’s surprising road to becoming an astronaut, from a shy and unassuming boy from Chichester who had a passion for flight, to a young British Army officer, Apache helicopter pilot, flight instructor and test pilot who served around the world.

Peake’s extensive 18-year career in the army included the command of a platoon of soldiers in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, deployment in Bosnia and flying multiple high-risk sorties as a test pilot, including operations in Afghanistan. After he was selected by the European Space Agency from more than 8,000 candidates, Peake undertook six years of training to be an astronaut, tested physically, psychologically, emotionally and intellectually - from learning Russian language in St. Petersburg to coping with the darkness and claustrophobia of living for days in caves in Sardinia and under the ocean off the United States.

Not as well read as previous audiobook

I’m a big fan of Tim’s “Ask an Astronaut” audiobook and have listened to it many times, but his narration of this one is lack lustre compared to the previous.

Still okay, but not great.

Not sure why - current world situation? Something changed in the last few years with Tim? Maybe he just read it with less enthusiasm because it’s not as light-hearted? Whatever the case, there’s no doubting he’s one in many millions, an amazing guy (all astronauts are incredible people, of course) but I even had to check it was him narrating it.

A thoroughly enjoyable book

I soo enjoyed this book which reveals that working hard and smart reaps huge success. It is told in a humble way and with wonderful humour as well. Sir Tim Peake is such a gentleman and a great credit to his family, profession, and country

Brilliant insightful book

This book kept me captivated throughout, it’s was an extremely
interesting insight into Tim’s life and what is required to become an astronaut. The book was enhanced by being expertly narrated by Tim himself.

Lots of army, not so much space

I really enjoyed this but it is mainly a description about his time in the army rather than space.

An extraordinary life story! Loved it!

This is only the second autobiography that I've read/listened to. I loved it. Tim has seized every opportunity presented to him and I find that really inspiring. His passion and enthusiasm for becoming a pilot, test pilot and then astronaut really shines through and I enjoyed going on the journey with him. He's obviously worked very hard to achieve everything he has and I commend his focus and determination. As a military veteran, I laughed alot at the military stories and I've told my military husband if he ever writes an autobiography he better write about me how Tim writes about Rebecca and their boys. His adoration for his wife and children is clear to hear/read. I will listen/read again and I've recently purchased tickets to see Tim on his tour this year. I cannot wait. I'm sure Tim and his family have many more adventures to look forward to and perhaps one day share with us again.

Truly inspirational

Great story, captivating from the beginning. Wasn't my expectation to get inspired to do more in my own life but it definitely gave me the boost to work harder to get my own goals.

Interesting and entertaining

Tim's book is very inspirational, he comes from humble beginnings but with hard work, dedication and sacrifice he's made his way up to becoming an astronaut. Some great stories and adventures along the way. Tim comes across as a very likeable guy.

Inspiring

After listening to this book, I feel like I can conquer the world! It was lovely to hear the story of someone who had a loving, supportive upbringing, who knew what they wanted to do in life, and went out and did it. I can't believe that people do the kinds of things that he did, especially at such a young age, but he made it happen. I feel so inspired for the future of space travel, and can't wait to see what happens next.
