Twisted, sexy, and fun, it's the perfect read for those looking to dip their toes into the darker side of romance
Ally, a trauma nurse, has her own history. Shes somewhat jaded by life, her hook-ups and her job, but seems to find pleasure in a social media site involving a man in a mask playing up his darkness to the camera. Josh, hacker, lives in the grey, has a horrendous backstory, has been in therapy for years and is concerned he’s like his father, has stalker tendencies and he is also the Faceless Man Ally is obsessed with. She wants to be chased down, he’s happy to oblige! What could possibly go wrong.
Circumstances bring them together in more of a “meet creepy” than “meet cute” and their relationship goes from there.
Yes this is a dark romance, but it’s also extremely funny. Josh is cute despite his obvious flaws, he’s caring and loving, and yes more than likely a sociopath, but a very appealing one. Ally is strong and independent, has a darker side and is probably also a sociopath, and their various kinks seem to suit each other. All seems to be going in the right direction, to the point where I’m thinking “there is almost half of this book to go, so where is it going to go?” and then things take a surprising turn!
It’s a really well crafted story, both characters are likeable, and it’s very funny, spice is off the charts. There are some potentially triggering things, but the humour somehow makes them less onerous. There is also a cat, who is also sociopathic, and very cute, and who doesn’t love a cat?
The narration is outstanding. Two of the best in the business plus it’s in duet; all narration should be in duet. Jacob Morgan is superb. He is so good at snark, and humour, and vulnerability. Elena Wolfe is excellent at humour, her timing is impeccable. Wish all audio books were narrated by these two.
Don’t be put off by the warnings (unless you are super sensitive) as the humour in this book lifts it out of the dark.
More than worth a credit.
