Summary

Welcome to the world of Axis Mundi, a techno-magic world powered by the will of the gods. And, yes, the term gods refer to all the beings in ancient mythology that were considered to be mere stories.

You think Zeus is just a story? Think again.

Matteo awakens to find that he is one of hundreds of thousands of people who have been mysteriously spirited away to the world of Axis Mundi to become players.

Each player is automatically part of a class. Your class is determined by a roll of the die. You could be in one of the powerful classes - such as class Zeus, named for the Greek god of the sky, where players have skills such as thunder and electricity manipulation, shock-wave bursts, increased damaged output from their weapons, awesome armor, and so on. Or, players could be part of the many other powerful classes that populate the world of Axis Mundi.

Unfortunately for Matteo, he finds himself in class Xipe Totec, Aztec god of agriculture. Provided with no weapons or special abilities, he is simply thrust into the world with a few simple instructions and forced to survive. However, Matteo has one thing that most people in the game do not: He already knows the world of Axis Mundi. After all, he played an RPG based on Axis Mundi back on Earth. And he knows about the mysterious world in minute detail.

Now, armed with just his wits and knowledge, Matteo must learn to face not just gods and monsters, magical weapons, and superpowers but also friendships, betrayals, loyalty, and, most importantly, survival.

Because in this world, one wrong move could mean the loss of your freedom. Or death.

Great start of a new series

Good start of a new series that keeps you in an emotional spiral with frustration and rage at times. But the steady progression keeps you draging you into the story.

Have read Dakota krouts books before and liked them, so if you are like me this one will be good. (Could be more jokes and game references in the futre!)

Great LitRPG

At first I was a bit hesitant because of the potential cliché premise. A couple chapters in and I couldn't stop listening. LT did a great job on putting his own twist on a Ready Player One type story. I ended up listening to the entire book split up over three days. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes GameLit.

Nothing to compare it to.

I listened to Lightningbreaker as a 1st time RPG book. I haven't played video games for several years, but I did love Prince of Persia back in the day, so not a completely unknown format.

The story is ok, the premise of falling into a new world is great, and the characters being drawn from all over the world was also good.
I found it all a bit predictable, but what do I know.
I thought the reader was good, clear and could I could pick out the various characters from tones of voice, etc.

Anyway, for me it was dipping my toe into RPG lit, but I probably will leave it at that.
