Summary

Marcy Hammer's life has been turned upside down. Her husband, the head of a global brassiere empire, didn't think twice about leaving her after thirty-three years of marriage for a 32DD lingerie model. Now Harvey the Home-Wrecker is missing in action, but Marcy's through thinking about what a cliché he is. What she needs now is a party-size bag of potato chips, a good support system, and a new dress.

Striking out on her own is difficult at first, but Marcy manages to find traces of humor in her heartbreak. Even while devastated by Harvey's departure, she still has her indomitable spirit and her self-respect. She has no intention of falling apart, either, even when her adult children drop a few bombshells of their own and she discovers a secret about her new, once-in-a-lifetime friend. Life may be full of setbacks, but by lifting herself up by her own lacy straps, Marcy just may be able to handle them all.

Second chance

I really liked this book. Perhaps I’m about the same age as Marcy and could relate to her issues of stale long marriage, empty nest, and passing of parents. Marcy is lucky to have good kids and friends. She is also lucky to have a second chance to live her life as she really wants after numerous stressful changes. She is a smart, plucky character with a snarky sense of humor to which I could relate. I found her awful husband’s business of ladies’ lingerie funny.

Meh

Long and tedious. I wanted the main character to have more adventure. She did not.

slow start, good middle and end

Almost gave up during beginning - too much whining, but as other characters and their problems were introduced the story picked up. Good job by narrator.

Great book

The narrator was excellent. The scenes and conversations, it felt like I was watching instead of listening.

Escape!

A fun listen and clever prose. A predictable story told in an especially entertaining way with a wonderful sense of humor. I recommend an evening spent escaping serious world issues listening to this book.

love the humor & cover

what is not to love ... I know that this story at times is tough to listen to or hear ... do to it's subject ... divorce is hard ... or at least I assume from what I have heard or seen in other friends ... it is a very rocky road. love that cover ... love the narrator ... such a great book. I will read more from Marilyn Simon Rothstein soon enough. Must check this out ... so would recommend it to ya!!

I really liked this tale of rebirth; very relatable. Easy, positive listening for the soul.

Bought it for the title, stayed for the story

This is becoming a theme in my reading list, but I'm getting a major kick out of the books starring women my age. They've learned to take the long view and are available to hand out sensible advice to the younger ones. It helps that men are eternal, no matter how old or young, and that's not necessarily a good thing. ;~)

I give five stars only to gorgeous prose, but I did enjoy this book. Solid four stars.
