About this listen

• Tells the author’s personal stories of unlikely coincidences, showing how synchronicity can be identified and evolve in one’s own life

• Explores how recognizing synchronicity and serendipity can help individuals find their life purpose, accelerate their spiritual and interpersonal development, and positively impact their lives

• Builds on the work of Carl Jung on the significance of synchronicity

In Life-Changing Synchronicities, pioneering psychiatrist Bernard Beitman, M.D., explores the experience and ramifications of meaningful coincidences, including how synchronistic happenings came to define his own life. Building on Carl Jung’s groundbreaking work on this phenomenon, Beitman applies new insights on coincidence, synchronicity, serendipity, and related phenomena to the contemporary age, ultimately helping readers begin to better identify patterns of synchronicity in their own lives, find deeper meaning, and more consciously align with their personal life path and goals.

The unlikely trajectory of the author’s own life reveals the strange and counterintuitive nature of synchronicity. From Wilmington, Delaware, to 1960s-era San Francisco, Beitman explores his experience with precognition and telepathy while playing high school football, his life as a psychiatric medical school student and hippie in Haight-Ashbury, and his rise to become head of psychiatry at University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School while developing The Coincidence Project. As well as providing questions for readers to reflect on, throughout the book Beitman provides additional tools to illustrate synchronicity, offering insightful comments and principles in each section to synthesize useful reflections that serve as a guide for readers’ own "coincidence diaries."

Critic reviews

“This book is a true odyssey, filled with mesmerizing synchronicities and moments of divine alignment that ignite the reader’s own sense of wonder. With each page, Bernie takes us into the heart of the magical coincidences that have shaped his life, weaving a tapestry of profound experiences and spiritual awakenings. Bernie’s courageous storytelling opens a gateway to understanding how synchronicity can be a guiding force that helps us discover our full potential and tap into a life of deeper meaning. Read this book and allow it to awaken in you a new appreciation for the mysteries that shape our lives. It’s a journey well worth taking.”
“This is a rare personal invitation to view behind the scenes into the deep well of inspiration that has guided and shaped Beitman’s life. Filled with wise anecdotes, this charming book entertains as much as it educates—a truly delightful read.”
“Scientism would like us to believe that no meaningful connections exist among events because there is no point to the universe. However, quantum physics is very clear about the existence of entanglement, proving that all events are interconnected in ways beyond what human instruments can detect. Throughout Beitman’s book hovers the sense that synchronistic events exist because there is order, purpose, and meaning in the universe. I also believe from experience that synchronicities are the way in which the universe communicates to us in ways that are relevant to our life’s journey, thus enlightening and comforting us.”
“I love Bernie Beitman’s new autobiographical take on meaningful coincidences! He writes vividly and engagingly about his synchronistically patterned life at various phases, including his athletic prowess and hippie psychedelic experiences as well as his professional career. Readers can draw their own lessons and insights from his ‘doctor’s notes’ and formulation of principles to better understand patterns in their own lives. Compulsive reading!”
“Synchronicities are natural and revelatory phenomena of the emergent understanding of a living universe that meaningfully exists and purposefully evolves as a unified entity. Life-Changing Synchronicities is itself a synchronicity as a way-shower, helping guide us to more consciously align both with our own life path and with the evolutionary impulse of our entire universe."
“Beitman masterfully assembled a wonderful collection of autobiographical accounts of how personal meaningful coincidences and synchronicities have woven an ongoing story throughout his life. As a timeless resource, the reader can use this book as a personal guide to a heightened awareness of interconnected synchronicity experiences on their own ongoing life journey.”

This book centres around the experiences of coincidence of a single person; Dr Beitman. We hear about a string of wrongs comitted against Dr Beitman on the sports field. We hear about a string of sexual partners, how satisfying one was sexually, how attractive or ordinary others were, about the STD contracted by yet another. None of these were attributed to his wife whom, he tells us, he is divorced from.
All of this is well and good if a biography is what you came to hear. Maybe my expectations were misplaced.
I would recommend you skip this and instead read 'Meaningful Coincidences' instead.
I read that first.
