Swoony, Second Chance Romance!

Liar Liar by Donna Alam was a swoony second chance romance that I absolutely loved! Remy and Rose have quite an interesting first encounter which only leads them on one whirlwind steamy journey to finally find their own HEA. I adored the setting (Hello, Monaco!) and all the characters (Fee!) in the book! Donna has this way of making you feel every bit a part of her character’s world. This is my second audiobook from Donna, and each one keeps getting better and better.

This audio is narrated by John Lane and Lucy Rivers. These two were the perfect pairing for Remy and Rose. Lucy Rivers is an audio delight as Rose. Her ability to switch between so many different character voices and accents flowed seamlessly, and helped me completely lose myself in the story. Lucy also portrayed Rose's fierce, passionate, and determined personality brilliantly! John Lane's portrayal of Remy's arrogant yet swoony persona was spot on and performed in a dreamy French accent! Both John and Lucy's performances of Rose and Remy's magnetic chemistry was HOT!

Overall, I enjoyed this story in audio. If you love a second chance romance with a hot Frenchman in a suit, a sassy heroine who goes after what she wants, loyal friends, Monte Carlo, all the accents, a memorable one night stand, super hot steamy times, secrets, ulterior motives, chocolate male appendages, baguettes, deception, glamorous apartments, extravagant galas, and a sweet, satisfying, redeeming HEA, then you will love Remy and Rose's story! I'm looking forward to more from Donna Alam!

Pants are not the only thing on fire!

I enjoyed this book. The dual narration was very welcome and I found the voices easy and pleasing to listen to. The story was a combination of emotion, drama and humor. I liked Remy and Rose but did have a couple issues with them. In spite of that, this was a fun romance to listen to.

Sometimes good. Sometimes not.

Donna Alam is a new to me author this is only the second book of hers that I’ve listened to. While this story had way to much introspection at times, the story was very good. Narrators John Lane and Lucy Rivers did a good job but. I expected better from both. At times Remy’s accent made it so difficult to understand that I almost gave up, but I’m glad I finished. Remy and Rose’s story is not really believable, but that’s the reason I read. I want something that takes me out of normal and believable. There are many secrets and some suspense. I’ll probably listen to it again at some point to see if it’s better the second time around.

One of the best French I listened to

That was a surprising story. Most of it is quite humorous and definitely romantic and sexy, and then, in the last few chapters, it takes a dark turn. What a twist.

Rose helps Remy after she injured him. She has a hot night with the French man before he disappears. Fast forward a few months, and Rose is hired to work at a hotel in Monaco owned by… you guessed it… Remy. Clearly the man lied to her. And it’s only the first lie of many.

I have to admit that I was annoyed with Rose when she kept forgiving Remy for his lies and deceptions. And manipulations. Yes, I could see he had real feelings for her, and he wasn’t using her exactly. Just his motivations and way of doing things were suspicious. And instead of coming clean every time she uncovered one of his lies, he kept secrets.

I also understand why he didn’t reveal everything to her. Kind of. He had trust issues, and for good reasons. Also some mysteries are better uncovered in secret. I get that. But it was detrimental to his relationship with Rose, even after courting her for months with gifts. As it is, it was still an interesting character arc, as he has to choose between finding the truth, and keeping Rose.

I found it a bit weird that a French man in Monaco decided to speak English almost all the time, even with other French people, but of course it was easier for the author. And she did mostly a good job with French sentences when used. Some of them were appropriate idioms. Some of them looked more like bad translation though. All in all, not the worst French I’ve read.

And one of the best French I listened to. Both narrators did mostly well with the French sentences. The male narrator, though, who kept a French accent even while recording in English, was amazing. Some of his sexy French words with barely an accent made me swoon hard. All in all, they both did great with their character’s emotions.

Unique storyline; not typical romance trope

A well-written story, this was refreshing because there are so few tropes in the romance genre, all overused. This was different than anything I’ve read, and I recommend it. Should come with a TW for sexual assault for those who might be triggered. Thought the narrators did a good job except the male narrator’s voice for the female character sounded like Paula Deen, and that made it hard to stay focused on the book.

Give me More John Lane!

I really enjoyed the audiobook for Liar, Liar. Donna Alam really hits that fabulous balance of humor and romance. Rose and Remy capture you right from the start and you can't help but get caught up in their story. One can only hope to find a partner who lives them as Remy loves Rose. John Lane does a fabulous job narrating with a French accent. He seamlessly slides between characters. Lucy Rivers made Rose a bit too whiny in some parts, hence my 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, a good, soap-opera like romance with an HEA.

A struggle to the end

I only purchased this audible because I started reading this book and was so bored by how stereotypical the heroine, Rose, fell for Remy. It was predictable, plus the French accent was quite annoying at times. Not one of Donna’s best…The narration was good though.

This was a miss for me

For some reason I just could not connect with this one. I loved the blurb and it started out pretty well. But then as the story went on I just found I didn't care what happened. It felt really long and wordy and maybe I just wasn't mentally in the right place to give the story the attention it required. It's not terrible...it just wasn't great either.

Ok but....

I wanted to like this story but it was long and drawn out and really didn't have any substance to it. FMC was kind of childish and a little annoying, she was insecure. The MMC accent was horrible. I kept waiting for something big to happen. I struggled to finish the story and still at nothing exciting happened. It was a waste of a credit/money for me.
