Michael Kostroff
An actor recounts his life on the road with two Broadway tours in this nonstop, tell-all memoir—with a foreword by Jason Alexander.
Part backstage tour, part travelogue, part social commentary, Letters from Backstage recounts Michael Kostroff’s adventures touring with the road companies of The Producers and Les Miserables. Trekking through more than 20 American cities large and small, here is the story of an actor’s dream come true and the bizarre things that happened along the way—not to mention personal anecdotes about celebrities, including Mel Brooks, Susan Stroman, Jason Alexander, and Martin Short!
Join Michael from the moment he gets the fateful call from his agent while working a temp job to his headfirst plunge into rehearsals, travel days, hotel rooms, cast changes, mood swings, onstage mishaps, and standing ovations. Discover what it’s like to play a haunted theater in Memphis, cope with burnout in Portland, dance around a crashing set in San Diego, and share the stage with acting legends.
I've laughed, I've teared up, and it makes wish I'd started pursuing acting earlier in life.
The joy in his voice is infectious, as is his love of the theatre and storytelling.
If you're an actor, you just love theatre, or you've always been curious what work goes into a travelling show I can't recommend this book enough.
You won't be disappointed.
A lovely look behind the curtain
