Summary

A Horus Heresy anthology

Only from out of great conflict can true heroes arise. With the galaxy aflame and war on an unimaginable scale tearing the Imperium apart, champions of light and darkness venture onto countless fields of battle in service to their masters.

This Horus Heresy anthology contains 18 short stories by authors such as Graham McNeill, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, Nick Kyme and many more. Also, Chris Wraight’s acclaimed novella 'Brotherhood of the Storm' delves into the nature of the elusive White Scars Legion, and their questionable sense of duty to the Emperor.

Easily skipped

Not bad storytelling but not at all vital to event the minor plotlines of the Heresy. Some are criminally short: the length of a chapter in a Dan Brown novel while others offer colour but little more than that. Because the events referenced are sandwiched among fixed points, there is only a certain amount of story to be mined and the pickings are scarce. Two of the stories repeat one after another so you're getting around a half hour less in total. Overall not worth a credit but certainly worth nabbing on the daily deal.

really bad narration

they have atleast 3 different narrators and yet whenever it's a white scar story its white people doing really bad Asian accents. surely since you went to the bother of grabbing 3 different ones for this one book you would get one that does not make you look like a racist?

Interesting, characterful stories

A shame that some people only want a story to rush to advance a plot line and can’t appreciate the storytelling for entertainment for what it is. Some really cool stories in the collection and some insights into characters

Slightly pointless entries. Feel free to skip.

There wasn't anything here that advanced the plot or shed new light. 2 of the novels were repeated and the whole thing felt unpolished.

excellent collection

for me this is one of the best collections of tales from the dark recesses of the 40k universe, it really helps to flesh out pockets of the war torn galaxy and fill in the voids between the huge stories.

Great series of stories

Loved all of the stories! (I'm not sure if this has already been made aware of,but on a number of occasions while listening the stories would move onto the next chapter but would have the same story again, possibly due to duplicate chapters being a part of the book)

Very enjoyable

If you've read a lot of the series some really good throwback to past characters, albeit a loyalists hero cronical.

Worst produced audio book ever

There are two stories which are repeated, so the overall length of the book is a lie. It makes me wonder if there are two stories missing from the book. The thematic song between books changes all the time, some of them are rather low in their quality of sound. The audio level throughout the book keeps changing between stories.

So many great stories.

I really enjoyed this book due to the amount of good stories that are include in it. It’s a great read for filling in information on characters throughout the Heresy.

Good stories bad editing

The stories are great, bit the edit of the Audio book has some duplicate files in it or something, there where three or so short stories that where repeated.

stories on repeat

some of the books were read multiple times and sometimes by different authors. idk if that was intentional or not but it made some if the overall story hard to follow

Good stories, terrible quality control!

As has been mentioned, some parts repeat. How the Hels does that get to the final product? Also, from one story to the next the sound levels are all over the place. Then there's Toby Longworths reading of *Riven*. Usually a great 40k narrator, this was incredibly & ridiculously aggravating! He whispers some parts so low that I have to turn the volume up noticeably. Then of course, he stops whispering... The neighbors actually got several impromptu introductions to the 40k universe due to the horrific sound levels. As I listen to these as I go to sleep, suffice to say I had to skip Riven or else be rudely *yelled at* by the terrible sound levels. Longworths ridiculously overwrought renditions of quiet asides followed by sudden *hear it two rooms over* exclamations... Again, how does this go out for sale this poorly produced? 1* for the overall performance 5* for the good Horus Heresy stories.

minor problems

there are a few repeat stories in here. thankfully they are among the shorter ones and it only happens twice. the story and voices are as always stellar.
