About this listen

Jenna Metcalf was with her mother the night she disappeared in tragic and mysterious circumstances, but she remembers nothing.

Over ten years have passed, and still Jenna reads and rereads her mother's journals, hoping to find some clue hidden there, in the meticulous recording of her scientific research with elephants.
Desperate for answers, Jenna uses all her savings to recruit the aid of a private detective - and a psychic.

Jenna knows her mother loved her. She knows she would not leave her. And she will not rest until she finds out what happened that night. In her most gripping mystery since House Rules, Jodi Picoult brings us a powerful story of a young girl's determination to uncover the truth, however shocking and life-changing it might be.

Over dramatic and over sentimental. Too much about elephants. Irritating voice used for the heroine. Disappointing but still a good story

Least enjoyable of her books

This was a very enjoyable "read", which keeps you guessing right to the end. I liked the 'style' of the book; each character taking it in turn to speak and tell their story.
I also learnt a lot about elephants and the amazing complexity of these animals. Absorbing, mysterious and unexpected. . . . a story well told that was well worth my credit.

Enjoyable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would and have already done so. Not only is it very interesting re the observations of elephant behaviour the storyline draws you in and keeps you engaged without guessing the end. Love the characters very well created. I like 'jodi Picoult but sometimes find her 'issuing' a bit worthy but this compelely surpasses that.

What did you like best about this story?

1 The elephants2 the diverse characters3 the end

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The narration benefitted from the multiple storytellers. This added to the characterisation gave it depth that takes it beyond just a reading.

Yes the end.

Any additional comments?

Just a really good experience worth amplifying which I have already done verbally.

Top story especially if you are drawn to elephants
