Practical and efficient in every way.

The first lesson actually caught me somewhat off-guard because I was right away presented with a full normal-speed Spanish conversation which was not familiar to me at all. I initially thought it was strange, but I kept listening and got through the main part of the lesson. Then towards the end, as they repeated the same Spanish conversation, I was immediately amazed by how much of the conversation I was able to understand even though it wasn’t even slowed down. Since the learning wasn’t too fast or intense, I didn’t realize just how much I was learning. This small burst of happiness got me excited to move on to the next lesson, where I was again presented with a new full Spanish conversation, and the cycle started all over again.

I also like the fact that even though this is a beginner course, the instructional material doesn’t coddle its listeners. The lesson immediately immersed me in a normal Spanish conversation and then worked backwards from there. It didn’t treat me like a child, it treated me like a beginner. Other language-learning tools might try to baby their listeners too much, which I now realize is a terrible technique because it renders those listeners too dependent. At the very beginning of this audio program, the instructor and author promised to give me the tools I would need in conversational Spanish, and so far, I can say that they are definitely living up to that promise.

At times, the instructor asks listeners to try guessing the meaning of a word during vocabulary-building exercises. I think this is a great way to keep the listeners alert. One of the challenges we learners face when we use pre-packaged learning products like this (instead of real-time classes) is that we don’t get many opportunities to actively think and participate. Instead, we usually have to sit back passively as we’re spoon-fed information. However, this tutorial doesn’t believe in spoon-feeding its listeners. Rather, it encourages the listeners to actively think and use the tools they are given. I find that this leads to me being more alert, and in turn, that makes memorizing new words a lot easier.

The instructor also makes sure to remind you of patterns or nuances that are normally known only to native speakers of Spanish. For example, from the very beginning, the instructor explains a valuable piece of information regarding the use of pronouns in modern conversational Spanish. I find these tidbits of information very helpful because it helps cut out a lot of confusion. I remember back when I was learning Korean with a completely different self-learn package, the instructor presented a grammar rule and some examples that used it. However, a few chapters later, I noticed that some new examples did NOT follow the grammar rule I had previously learned, yet the recordings of the instructor continued to use the examples as if they were grammatically correct.

Due to this confusion, I had to pause my learning session and then search on the Internet for the answer. Eventually, I found what I was looking for. However, this confusion had disrupted my learning momentum; all because the resource didn’t bother to explain the nuances that would have been helpful to me as a self-learning beginner in Korean. On the other hand, I have done eight lessons from this bundle, and not once have I been confused by any “inconsistencies” or surprised by grammar rule “exceptions” because the instructor always explains any special cases or variations beforehand. Looking back now, I definitely wish that I had access to a similar learning tool when I was learning Korean.

I personally like taking down notes just in case I forget new words or phrases. However, the way this course repeatedly uses and builds on previously learned words has improved my vocabulary retention. So now, for the first time ever, I rarely need to look at my vocabulary lists.

Overall, it’s obvious that the creators and all those involved put in a lot of thought and effort into creating this bundle of lessons. I know that there are countless other Spanish learning courses and apps out there, and I’m sure each one has its own advantages. However, as someone who spends a large portion of my free time going through various language-learning tools, I can safely say that this course is one of the best I’ve encountered.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I just wanted to tell any beginners who still aren’t sure about buying this bundle, do it. It’s well worth your time.

It’s exploding with (useful) information.

It’s great that this bundle is simply jam-packed with information. The narration and instructions are clear and consistent. The predictable repeating patterns work to minimize confusion. By having the same format for every lesson, the learning system allows listeners to focus on what is being learned rather than wondering how they’ll learn it.

It’s also a nice touch that every voiceover actor/actress is a native Spanish speaker. I’ve encountered some language lessons that had one voice actor for the English parts and then a different actor for the foreign language parts. However, throughout the recording it becomes clear that even the main instructor (who has flawless English) is fluent in Spanish. To me, this confirms that the creators of the course were very thoughtful and selective about which voice actors to cast. Attention to detail is a great way to show your users that you genuinely care about their progress as learners. I feel like in a way, the creators are saying, “We know you’re a beginner, but we’ve got your back. So don’t worry, just focus on learning.”

I haven’t gotten very far in the lessons yet, but I’m making steady progress. And although the recordings are very clear, I recommend referring to the transcript while listening. I’ve always been more of a visual learner, so it would be an understatement for me to call the transcript “helpful”. Even just referring to it on my computer (as opposed to printing it out) has made a huge difference for me because it’s so much easier for me to spot patterns and make a mental note of them. Not to mention, the fact that the transcript is well over 600 pages is a testament to just how much information you have access to with this bundle alone.

Each lesson builds on information you learned in the previous chapters, which I know doesn’t sound like a big deal because basically every beginners package out there claims to do this. However, so many of those products fall surprisingly short in this regard. On the other hand, this audio course actually manages to effortlessly integrate this practical feature throughout every lesson in order to ensure you don’t forget what you have learned. Simple things like this actually go a long way in terms of learning effectiveness and efficiency, so I definitely do not take these teaching methods for granted.

In short, the more I use this audiobook, the more I appreciate the work that went into it. Countless products claim to be of high quality and functionality, but how many of them are able to deliver on those claims? In a world where profit is constantly put first in exchange for quality, this is one of the rare products which breaks that trend. If anyone who was involved in the production of this audiobook sees this review, I just want you to know that you every right to be proud of what you’ve done.

A great learning companion

This is a great way to learn and practice but it can't be the only thing you use. In order to truly make sense of it all, you must have a textbook/ other learning materials. Otherwise an amazing tool. It's good to hear different accents saying the same thing.

best spanish course ive found

tried a few different methods/courses and this is the best for me. it moves faster than most beginner courses in a good way. the method consists of listening repeating and then translating, so you are continuously testing yourself. the price is also very reasonable as there is a lot of content crammed in and new learners will need to pause the tape often to thibk of responses so you will get far more than the 20 hours running time of it.

Definitely not like a bag of chips.

Oftentimes people will give five-star reviews relatively haphazardly. However, I can safely say that each star that this Spanish learning audiobook has received, it has earned. I’m normally a tough person to impress, but this system of learning was so straightforward (but at the same time, detailed) that I simply couldn’t resist giving it five stars. I know I can’t speak for every single person who has tried this audiobook out, but I strongly believe that the majority of the people who purchased these lessons view them as an investment.

I definitely recommend buying this as your very first introduction to learning Spanish. I think one of the best ways to describe the arrangement of content is with the term “minimalist”. Now, this does NOT mean that you barely get any information. The thing about minimalist art is that it delivers BIG ideas as efficiently and cleanly as possible. By drawing even less than 10 lines, a skilled minimalist artist can meaningfully convey what they want to say. Similarly, this language-learning package has been put together in a way that allows you to acquire a considerable amount of knowledge within a limited time. On the other hand, many other learning resources can be clunky, even clumsy in their teaching methods. They remind me of a bag of chips: about one quarter of the content is what you actually paid for, while the other three-fourths is “air” or filler.

According to the audiobook’s introduction, its creator used to be in our shoes: once upon a time, he was looking for Spanish learning resources. But you might ask, “If he just learned Spanish, why should I trust him to teach me?” Think about it, the author knows what we’re going through as learners because he was once a learner himself. I’m also sure that the author’s experiences with learning Spanish have a lot to do with the excellent flow of the various lessons. If you take a step back, the program truly is the best of both worlds. It has native Spanish speakers to facilitate learning. But at the same time, this audio program was designed by someone who understands the struggles of English speakers trying to learn Spanish. It’s a killer combination.

I could go on and on about all of good things that this valuable resource brings to the table, but instead I encourage anyone who sees this review to try it out for himself/herself. Depending on your previous learning experiences, you might find the teaching methods familiar or revolutionary. Either way, it will most likely be a positive experience. Like I said, I’m normally hard to impress, but I acknowledge good, honest work when I see it. I look forward to buying the intermediate bundle once I’m done with this one. I definitely made the right choice buying this!

The right lessons in the right order

I think the main reason I found this audio program especially useful is because each lesson is easy to follow and contains only necessary information. I think one of the main reasons people start to lose interest in learning a language is because of how repetitive and tedious the process of going through various learning resources can be. It felt refreshing that this audiobook didn’t start with the conventional opening lessons such as common greetings or how to say, “My name is…” These topics tend to be the conventional starting points for language-learning lessons, but let’s be honest, these aren’t really a priority in typical conversation.

I mean, I feel like there isn’t a person on Earth who doesn’t understand the English words, “Hello,” or “Hi.” And if you need to tell a non-English speaking person your name, you can just point to yourself and say it or go on Google Translate if you’re really keen on getting the exact wording. All things considered, this part of everyday conversation isn’t really an urgent need. And I believe that the author understood this and that’s why these topics don’t come first at all. This is one of the few language-learning systems that has its priorities straight.

The Swiss Army knife of language learning progra

There are so many good qualities, where do I even begin? First off, I’m also pleased with the adequate time and opportunities to master pronunciation. Many language-learning programs only allow you to practice pronouncing a word once or twice and then move on. Whereas with this audiobook, you are given several opportunities to hear and master a word within one lesson alone. Then the subsequent lessons build on the words you practiced, so you inevitably end up mastering them. And although this is done consistently, the lessons feel fresh rather than repetitive or tedious.

Another thing I like about this bundle is that there are no prerequisites. I truly believe that even if a person had never heard a single Spanish word in his/her life, s/he would still be able to use this program with ease. At the same time, the lessons contain enough information that even beginners who have quite a bit of previous experience with Spanish lessons won’t get bored. And finally, I appreciate the early incorporation of grammar. Sometimes it feels like certain language courses are more focused on teaching vocabulary to beginners because it’s supposedly less complicated than teaching them grammar rules. But I believe that teaching grammar right from the beginning (which is what this program does) lays the foundation for expanding the learners’ vocabulary and improves their retention. I would 100% recommend this product to my friends and family!

Good, maybe very good, but not superb

This program was highly recommended by at least three different people in my Spanish language learning meet up group. They talked about this audible program like it was the best thing since sliced bread. After completing about 95% of it I will say that it is good, actually very good, but definitely not superb as the fans (perhaps I should say fanatics) of this audio program would have you believe. One great thing about it is that is actually has a methodology. Initially I had purchased another audio program which I had confused with this one because the names were similar and the other program turned out to be nothing more than a vocabulary builder from someone simply reading off a long list of Spanish vocabulary words. But this one actually has a real methodology to it.

I do know a couple programs which I prefer over this one but they are not in this same price range. One of the best if not the absolute best thing about this one (besides the method of teaching and learning) is the amount of hours of audible Spanish lessons included for the price. Don't quote me on this but I believe there are over 20 hours of Spanish lessons. And that's lot of audio lessons considering what I paid.

If I had to pick one thing to justify why I consider this audible very good but certainly not superb is the fact that some of the vocabulary I learned I would never use. Such as the names of different hardware tools. I don't have any need for learning how to say hammer, nail or screw driver in Spanish. I know that some people may want to learn Spanish because they work with Spanish speaking employees and co-workers in construction but that is not the reason why I want to learn Spanish. I also understand that the idea is of this method is not to teach you to memorize a list of Spanish words but give you the tools to confidently converse in Spanish. But I felt that there could be slightly more helpful vocabulary.

In order to supplement my vocabulary-learning I found it necessary to buy another audible from the same author. I also purchased the 3 Learn Spanish For Adults Audiobooks Bundle which includes 1,000 Spanish Words, 99 Spanish Conversations & 150 Spanish Idioms. This audible program and the 3 Learn Spanish For Adults Audiobooks work hand in hand. If there were any vocabulary words that I missed out on in this audible program, I am sure that I learned them in the 3 Learn Spanish For Adults Audiobooks Bundle (1,000 Spanish Words, 99 Spanish Conversations & 150 Spanish Idioms). I have already purchased the intermediate level product in this series and will one day purchase the advanced one as well. I hope that anyone reading this will find my review quite helpful.

What I really like about this audiobook

This audiobook is among my top 5, if not my top 3. What I enjoyed most about all of these audio lessons is that the lessons taught me practical, conversational Spanish. And the teaching style really helped to improve my Spanish pronunciation. But one thing that really stands out about this program is that the interactive method really helped me to think in Spanish.

One problem that I have always had is that when I hear Spanish spoken, I try to translate it in my head. Which doesn not work because by the time I finish translating a phrase in my head, the speaker is already finishing another phrase or two. But I noticed that the interactive method used in this program forces me to actually think in Spanish as opposed to mentally translate from Spanish into English.

Another thing that I really like about this program is that they include several bonus gifts. One bonus gift that this program includes, allows you to attend a monthly online Webinar taught by a Spanish teacher from Colombia. There is no extra cost to pay in order to attend the monthly online Webinars.

One thing that I should make clear is that that the target market for this audio program seems to be the Spanish-language learner who wants to eventually achieve fluency in Spanish, and not just someone who just wants to pick-up a few travel phrases that will come in handy for tourists. If you are running short on time and you need an ebook to quickly pick-up of some travel phrases for an upcoming trip to Cancun, Mexico or Barcelona, Spain and you have no intentions of making the effort to learn to speak Spanish fluently, there are definitely better choices than this program. But if you are absolutely sure that you want to begin the long journey it takes to learn to speak Spanish fluently, then I highly recommend this program.

I thought I was ready for level 2

I thought I was ready for level 2 but realized that I needed a refresher course. Level 1 is perfect. I went back to the beginning to fill in the gaps and get ready for level 2. I'm pleased with this program. It was recommended by a friend of mine (Beatrice) and I'm happy I listened to her. I recommend this to anyone who learning Spanish.

Highly effective guess-listen-repeat method

I'm a life-long student of learning foreign languages and I've been studying foreign languages for more than 30 years. I also speak several foreign languages either fluently or almost fluently. So let's just say I know at least a little bit about what it takes to learn how to speak a foreign language.

Out of all the different teaching methods I have experienced in audio programs over the years, this one is easily in the top 20 percent. As I mentioned in my review of another audio bundle by the same author, one of the main benefits is that the method of instruction is very intriguing and it will keep you alert and leave you wanting to practice more. Another plus is that this audiobook only features native Spanish speakers which I consider a huge benefit because it guarantees that I learn how to correctly pronounce all of the different words and phrases in the Spanish language.

This author's teaching style has earned him a well-deserved reputation in the foreign-language learning arena. In a nutshell, the teaching style uses a guess-listen-repeat method. His guess-listen-repeat method does two things. Firstly, the "guessing" aspect helps you to actually think in the target language. Secondly, the "repeating" aspect develops and reinforces the correct pronunciation.

Another major benefit of learning with this audiobook is that it takes Spanish grammar concepts and simplifies them. The approach that is used this audiobook is most effective for helping beginners learn how to conjugate Spanish verbs without over-explaining Spanish grammar concepts which would've been boring for many beginner-level students.

By the way, my review of this audiobook makes my fifth review of an audiobook by this same author. I am a member of an audiobook club and this is one of the audiobooks that was recently listed. We are required to reveal in our reviews that we received the audiobook at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

I give it 5 stars!

Buenos días. Although this review is a review of the software program, the only thing that separates the software program from the audio program currently available at Audible is that the software program gives you the option to see the text as part of a desktop program. The audible version provides you with a complete PDF transcript. Me llamo Darian George. Soy de un estado que se llama Illinois, en un pueblito que se llama Rockford. Si tú no puedes entenderme, es porque tú no hablas español. Entonces hoy… All right, enough of that. Now, people always ask me: “Darian, how did you learn Spanish? What methods did you use to help your Spanish?”

There’s this idea that because I’ve lived in Latin America, that I learned Spanish. Let me give you my background really quickly. I taught in Honduras for two years, I taught in Dominican republic for a year, and I also did a six-week study abroad in Costa Rica about six years ago.

Now, when I moved to Costa Rica I spoke minimum Spanish. Like, I knew “hola,” “¿cómo está?” y “¿dónde está el baño?” Now, people will assume that just by virtue of living in Latin America that you will learn how to speak Spanish. Now, that is not true at all. That’s like saying that just because you have a gym membership that you’ll get in shape. So, this is the program that I used.

I do want to go over five reasons why you too should use this program. Reason number one: it helps you develop the ear for Spanish. This is what you call the Listen and Reply method. A lot of people tell me this: “well, I understand it, I just can’t speak it.” Or, “I can read it and write it but I can’t speak it.” Guess what: you can’t speak it. But the whole point of communicating is to communicate.

People don’t walk around in English and say “hey, wait one second, let me write this down.” It would just be weird. So Spanish sounds like it’s spoken in cursive. Like, the words just run together.

For the longest, I never heard the word “hermano,” I always heard “mano.” And I’m like: “why do they keep on saying ‘hand’? I’m so confused.” And then one day, I heard the “hermano.” And that’s when I was like: “oh, that’s the whole word.” It’s very difficult because the words do run together and, if you don’t have the ear for it. So, that’s one thing that this method does for you. It helps you develop the ear for it by doing the Listen and Reply or the Call and Respond method.
All right, reason number two the creators of the program give you usable Spanish. They give you scenarios for every day, common things like ordering coffee at a restaurant, how to check in at a hotel, how to call a cab. I used another program (once again, I won’t say the name of it) and they taught me stuff like “the boy runs down the street” - “el niño corre.” Listen, I have not said “the boy runs down the street” since I started speaking Spanish. Another Spanish program taught me to say something like “the horse is underneath the airplane.” No one says that.

Reason number three: It’s only 30 minutes a day. Now again, I did a different program where I was dedicating maybe two to three hours per day. And I don’t even have a lot of time on my hands, but I really was desperate to learn Spanish. And so, I was studying, studying, studying, and I didn’t learn anything. So, this is only 30 minutes. Roughly 25 to 30 minutes, depending on you. This is something you can do during your morning commute, on your way back home, if you’re doing cardio at the gym… I’ve done it while I’m on the Stair-master, people looking at me like I’m crazy. But I don’t care, I’m learning Spanish.

Reason number four: The creators of the program use authentic Latin American voice actors. Like people from Colombia, people from Venezuela, people from the DR. You’re not going to get that 1960s Spain Spanish: “hola, ¿cómo está usted?” No one says that ever. You’ll look just silly if you do say that.

I remember seeing commercials on TV in Spanish for products. They were like: “Nuevo sabor. El refresco Coca-Cola.” This method is not going to teach you that type of Spanish. You won’t sound like a news broadcaster. It’s actually going to be authentic Spanish. But it’s not going to be street Spanish.

They’re not going to teach you street Dominican Spanish like: “¿qué lo que e? Dímelo.” Stuff like that, no. It’s not going to be hood Spanish, but it will be authentic Spanish that’s usable. They’ll teach you the difference between the formal and the informal tenses.

All right, and I would say reason number five: this is extremely affordable. I paid $97 for the software version. And there is a lot that is included. I was able to use it to get through a lot of lessons. For 97 bucks, that’s like, what? Like 50% of some Jordan’s. So, just think about it. Just don’t buy Jordan’s and you can have this program. This is not a huge investment. For 97 bucks, we’re talking about a program that actually works.

And you not going to have to pay anything close to $97 when you get the all-audio version from Audible. As I mentioned earlier, the only thing that separates the software program from the audio program currently available at Audible is that the software program gives you the option to see the text as part of a desktop program while the audible version provides you with a complete PDF transcript. So, that is my review of this program. I am Darian George signing off. I give it five stars. You guys have a wonderful day. Nos vemos.

VERY HELPFUL!

I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and did very well, but now that I'm 50 it's completely gone from my mind LOL.
This is a great course, and great value.
Very helpful and informative, I now feel much more confident speaking conversational Spanish.

I found it easy to listen to and understand, and really got a benefit from listening :)

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Handy way to learn Latin American Spanish

The Spanish covered in this audible book is Latin American Spanish. That made me happy after buying another audible book that seemed to cover both Latin American Spanish and Spain's Spanish. The majority of the people who I meet who speak Spanish are either from South America or Central America so learning Latin American Spanish really comes in a lot more handy than learning Spanish for Europe. I'll add that I also like that the lessons are broken up into 30 minute chunks, more or less, which makes them the ideal length for me anyway.

Well worth the credit!

I'm a beginner Spanish student learning on my own using apps, podcasts, books, and videos online. I picked up this audiobook to supplement my other lessons and I'm glad I did! It starts with the very basics of vocabulary and teaches it in a way guaranteed to make me remember. The narrator leaves space in order to guess the word and repeat it, making sure to imprint the word or phrase in my head.

If you're using an app like Duolingo to learn Spanish, or another program that focuses on repetition and memorization, this book is a great companion. Rather than memorizing phrases, it explains conjugation and sentence structure, which is really helpful. It also has a lot of sample conversations. This isn't a quick phrasebook, it contains in depth lessons that will help you to become fluent. At 30 hours, it contains a lot of content for a single credit.

The narration was really well done, the narrators left enough time to listen and repeat phrases, and enunciated in a way I never had trouble understanding. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a great product

I own Fluenz, play Duonlingo and listen to their podcast for intermediate Spanish, but this is my favorite resource. I minored in Spanish in college and at one time was nearing fluency. I've lost my ability to speak Spanish, but I can still read and understand most intermediate written communication. I'm only on lesson 3, but I absolutely love the repetition and audio format. If you want to be able speak Spanish, you have to listen to it and speak it a lot. All of the lessons thus far are very familiar concepts, that despite their familiarity are still difficult to access when trying to speak naturally. I appreciate the teaching approach with this product and can't wait to progress through all of the bundles.
