Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) est un poète et écrivain écossais. Père du roman historique, il a contribué à forger une image romantique de l'Écosse et de son histoire. Ivanhoé, publié en 1819 est son œuvre la plus populaire. Traduit en de nombreuses langues, le livre lance Scott et la vogue du roman historique dans toute l'Europe.
