Summary

Pendant l'été 1972, Reykjavík est envahi par les touristes venus assister au championnat du monde d'échecs qui oppose l'Américain Fischer et le Russe Spassky. L'Américain se conduit comme un enfant capricieux et a de multiples exigences, le Russe est sympathique. Il a seulement préféré loger à l'hôtel plutôt qu'à la maison des syndicats, où voulait l'accueillir le Parti Communiste islandais. Pourquoi ?
Au même moment, dans une salle de cinéma, un jeune homme sans histoires est poignardé sans raison apparente. Le commissaire Marion Briem est chargé de l'enquête au cours de laquelle certains éléments vont faire ressurgir son enfance douloureuse. Et bien d'autres souvenirs...
Encore un roman d'Indridason qu'on ne quitte pas, tant l'ambiance, la densité des personnages, la qualité de l'écriture et l'intrigue sont prenantes. Une interprétation toute en nuances par un fin connaisseur de la noirceur des thrillers scandinaves.
