Critic reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

Quite advanced , revision needed of earlier units

Grammar and syntax become quite tricky. Again, beware- the Spanish taught us Latin American and often subtly different to European Spanish. Some words and phrases are difficult to learn, due to speed of the speakers. You may need to repeat units a number of times to gain confidence.

Just keep re-listening... You'll get it.

I've been listening to these lessons over and over again. Every day, I absorb a little more. I take breaks once in a while and then I come back to it. Learning doesn't happen overnight. It's a good program for the price. Just remember to use what you learn.

Great program!

What made the experience of listening to Spanish Phase 1, Unit 21-25 the most enjoyable?

Before pimsleur I would hear a Spanish speaker and just hear mumbles and the word hola. Now after 25 lessons I can somewhat understand and hold conversations with who ever is willing to speak.

I have always tried to learn how to speak Spanish but with great trouble and little results. Pimsleur program is the one that has helped the most!! I work at a retail store that has many Spanish speaking people shopping there. I also have a few bi-lingual coworkers that allow me to practice as well. The majority of them tell me that I speak very well but slowly. This is huge progress compared to what my Spanish fluency was when I began.

As I am sure you have already experienced, it is not an overnight task to learn how to speak a second language.
I feel it is even harder to learn how to speak a second language by only learning how to write it.

Pimsleur solves this dilemma! With interactive conversations, they drop in a few words each lesson. They tell you how to speak it and what the word means and then incorporate it into your vocabulary.

Sometimes it is better to redo some of the lessons you had trouble on, even taking an extra day on them.

Pimsleur is the way to go for learning how to Speak a second language!

love the Pimsleur method!

I feel like I am learning so much by listening to this as an audiobook everyday on my commute to and from work.

I am continuing to enjoy this program, and still feel like I am learning more and more with each set of lessons.

Overall Great, One Problem

Overall, these are terrific tools for learning a language. I do give them an excellent rating overall. They have absolutely assisted me in communicating in Mexico for business. I do have a specific complaint that in lesson 24 they begin using a large amount of Spanish in the instructions. This was an outright stupid decision on Pimsleur's part. Its far too much at the level I am at, which includes 7 weeks in Mexico, nearly 50 hours of practices from a language app (Duolingo), and multiple informal lessons from native speakers. The problem is it interrupts the flow of learning what the lesson is teaching to suddenly try to figure out what the Spanish instruction wants you to say vs. what is the actual instruction. It doesn't teach, it slows progress having to translate what you being told before you tale the next step in the conversation. Just a remarkably idiotic decision on the Pimsleur system's part.

So helpful!

This is the best language program out there! I can't believe how much I have learned, and I can actually stick with it because I do it on my commute. I have to listen to the lessons twice to really absorb all of the material.

I'm learning to read Spanish well. <br />

I'm learning so much. I am surprised at how much I can comprehend through reading. Discerning conversations in public is still very challenging, but I am making progress.
