Everywhere I look I see trees.

Twenty years ago, Albert Croft was found guilty of a murder he always claimed he did not commit and had spent the intervening time in prison. His brother finally managed to arrange for an appeal hearing on a technical evidence query. Then a witness, a woman Albert always claimed had been with him when the murdered woman's screams were heard but thought to be a figment of Albert's immagination, came forward to give supporting evidence. An indigent person, she was placed under police protection as death threats had been made, but just before the retrial, she again went missing. So, too, did the daughter of the murdered woman who, when aged only two, had been found by her mother's body. Abby Faulks now has two people to find. And fast.

The book is written mostly in the third person from Abby's point of view, with good atmospheric description. Better than the preceding story, it still suffers from a rather wishy washy lead protagonist whose character does not seem fully formed despite the scenes of family life and her internal dialogues. However, the story is intriguing.
Fortunately, the narration for this second book is by Carrie Goodwood, with a pleasant, if rather youthful, voice, clear cut pronunciation and an excellent interpretation of the text. Her voicing of the characters is also distinctively differentiated.

My thanks to the rights holder for freely gifting me a complimentary copy of Lady's Slipper, at my request, via Audiobook Boom. An interesting police procedural. This series is improving all the time and I look forward to book three
