Summary
Le docteur James Hardcastle se remet difficilement d'une tuberculose, et doit impérativement partir quelques mois en convalescence. Il choisit d'aller se reposer quelques temps dans la ferme de Mademoiselle Allerton, isolée dans la campagne anglaise. Il constate qu'une étrange affection règne dans cette région des collines du Derbyshire. Puis, au cours de ses promenades, il découvre le trou du Blue John, une ancienne mine romaine, qui recèle bien des secrets.
