Summary

Georg Røed ha quindici anni e conduce una vita tranquilla, come la maggior parte dei suoi coetanei. Ma un giorno trova una lettera che suo padre gli aveva scritto prima di morire e che aveva poi nascosto, affinché il figlio la potesse trovare una volta grande. In questa lettera il padre, Jan Olav, racconta la storia della "ragazza delle arance", una giovane con un sacchetto di arance incontrata un giorno per caso su un tram di Oslo e subito persa.

Per Jan è un colpo di fulmine. Georg si appassiona a questo racconto, che si accorge riguardarlo molto da vicino e che pian piano gli svela ciò che è accaduto prima della sua nascita; un racconto attraverso il quale la voce del padre lo raggiunge da lontano facendolo riflettere sul senso della vita.
