Summary

Taran Elijah's quest for knowledge uncovers a plot that threatens the world....

In Albia, the fourth realm, the precious Artesan gift is dying. Although born to the craft, Taran is struggling to achieve his potential. Against his friends' advice, he embarks on a foolhardy plan to acquire the teaching he craves. Alone, he crosses into Andaryon, the fifth realm, but instead of finding a mentor, he stumbles upon a treacherous plot.

In the wake of Taran's actions, Albia suffers a series of vicious raids, and Major Sullyan of the High King's forces is sent to oppose them. But a dark and treacherous force is moving through the realms, and both Taran and Sullyan will feel its power. Their craft, the lives of their friends, the very existence of their realm are under threat unless they expose and oppose the evil.

Critic reviews

"Cas Peace's Artesans of Albia trilogy immediately sweeps you away: the drama starts with King's Envoy, continues unabated in King's Champion, and climaxes in King's Artesan, yet each volume is complete, satisfying. The Artesan series propels you into a world so deftly written that you see, feel, touch, and even smell each twist and turn. These nesting novels are evocative, hauntingly real. Smart. Powerful. Compelling. The trilogy teems with finely drawn characters, heroes and villains and societies worth knowing; with stories so organic and yet iconic you know you've found another home - in Albia. So start reading now. I, for one, can't wait to find out what will happen next." (Janet E. Morris, best-selling contributor to the shared-universe fantasy series Thieves World. Nice fantasy novel, but narration was lacking...

Overall, I enjoyed Kings Envoy. It's an exciting, fast moving fantasy novel, with some interesting characters that are richly developed and well described.
I'd definitely be interested in further books in the series, but I'd like to see one major improvement.I was disappointed by the narration on this occasion, and hope that things can improve on that front. The narrator seemed a little 'nervous', and the audio came across rather 'tinny', which I found very off-putting. Its a shame really, as the story itself has a lot to like.

I received this copy for free, in return for an honest review.

A magic developing

This book involves the adventures of a young man intent on continuing his training in magic and the travails he must go through. He makes many missteps and almost dies as he searches for a teacher.

He stumbles upon an army group and is draw into the middle of a war that stretches across dimensions and involves the lives of people he cares about.

The book is well written and the plot is well knitted together.

The narrator takes a little time to become accustomed to because of her accent; but fully understandable with a pleasant voice.

This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.

Enjoyable start to the series!

I enjoyed the story and id be keen to find out what happens in the rest of the books; adventure and magic, what’s not to like!?
I would have preferred to have experienced the battles rather than just be told they happened, but every book can’t have epic fights I guess.
I’ve listened to Rebecca before and I noticed she had a tinny, almost echoey recording sound which fit well with the other books, but I found it a little distracting in a fantasy setting and it made me feel a little anxious even during the laid back parts of the story.
All in all, a good story with good potential and well read by the narrator.
This is my honest opinion of a free review copy.

Amazing world building.

Taran longs to advance his magic, but since his father died he hasn't had any help, nor does he know anyone else proficient in it, so he makes a decision that will change his life forever!! He crosses to another realm, one that has been at peace with his realm for decades, and upon entering makes a mistake that will cost him more than he knows.

This book surprised me! I went into it with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised with how much I loved it!! You are brought into the world right from the start and I loved learning the intricate world along with Taran. Albia is one of 5 realms that are joined by a veil, that only people proficient in the ability to wield the life force, Artesans, are able to pierce the veil to access the realms. Taran is one of these, but he is only at the Journeyman stage and is desperate to learn more, hence why he went through the veil! The system of the magic and the different worlds was well told and easy to understand. I was enthralled with the world the author created and couldn't read it fast enough!!

The characters were another thing I loved. Each one of them was well developed and well written! It wasn't hard to love each of them, especially Taran and Sully! Sully was such a strong character and one that I admired. She was bad a88 and was a pleasure to read. Often times, a book that's fast paced and intense suffers from lack of character development, but I feel like the author got it right here. Both the world building and character development was well thought out and delivered expertly. We get characters that are continually growing as well as a world that's rich in detail and a joy to read.

In all, a great introduction to the series. It sets the plot and pace for what's sure to be an awesome series!! Bring on book 2!!

Rebecca McKernan was amazing! Her inflections and cadences brought the world alive and she had some pretty awesome tones and voices for each person. I loved her tone for Sully!! I will say that there were times when I felt like she was reading this in a long tunnel. There just seemed to be a void and her voice sounded like that's what she was talking into. The production quality wasn't very crisp!

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Very interesting, and entertaining.

The author builds an interesting, magical world. The story is crafted nicely, with interesting and likable characters. I was so engaged in the story, that when it ended, I was like NO!! I need more! I am looking forward to the next book. Can’t wait. If you like good fantasy novels, magical kingdoms, I think you will enjoy this book. The narrator does a wonderful job. My only complaint is the audio could have been a little warmer, seemed a little thin, but a quick adjustment to my eq fixed that on my end.

Great fantasy story

I was given this audiobook for free for my fair and honest review. I loved the story but had a hard time distinguishing between characters as the narrator's voice did not change. The story all seem to be told with the same pacing, the narrator just didn't work for me. Cudos to Cas Peace for a great, fantasy story.

I gave this another listen and like the narrator better the second time.

A Must!

This has been my favorite audible thus far! The beginning built the characters and relationships. After that, between the well written tale and the fabulous narration, I didn't want to stop listening! Cas has an angelic voice in the songs that are part of the book. My only riff is that it ended and the way it ended; because the next book isn't available on audible. I just might have to buy the book. I want to know what happens next!!! :)

Excellent fantasy story

When a young man with a gift for magic who is struggling to reach his potential hatches a daring plan, his actions cause ripples much bigger than himself. Struggling to reach his potential in his own land, he creates a magic portal to another more magic rich realm, where he hopes to gain an apprenticeship and learn more magic. Instead, things go sideways, and his appearance in the other realm cause an excuse for retaliation on his realm, and causes drastically unforeseen consequences that could spell doom for many people. With some fantastically drawn out characters, a fast paced plot, and some twists and turns to keep things interesting, The King's Envoy is a fantasy story fans can easily get into. Rebecca McKernan's narration is also top notch, bringing each character to life and engrossing the listener in the story. Highly recommended.

Really good fantasy

I was given this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this review.

I listen to a fair amount of fantasy books so I know the genre pretty well. King’s Envoy is one of the best fantasy books I have listened to lately. Great descriptions, great action, great magic and creatures. Very well developed characters. The narrator is excellent , as was the production quality.

Unique!

King's Envoy takes you on a journey through a world that is unique and fascinating. The characters are well thought out, and, although flawed, are likable. There is no predictability found, as far as I was concerned, which made it even better.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and Rebecca McKernan is a talented narrator. The sound quality wasn't great, which was a bit distracting, as it sounded like she was in a metal box. Not an echo, really, just a hollow sound. However, she does a great job of the narration which kept me into the book.
I do recommend this book
