Summary

The latest Rachel Prince mystery by Dawn Brookes.

A body in the water. A plethora of suspects. Rachel Prince must be on another cruise! Plus, by popular demand, Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe returns....

The crew aboard the fictional Coral Queen find themselves stretched to the limit by the antics of a queen tribute act, a troublesome stag party, and a group of excitable female cheerleaders.

Rachel is accompanying Lady Marjorie on a cruise around the Baltics. The older woman is hoping for a mystery while Rachel seeks peace and quiet.

PC Rachel Prince, cruise ship sleuth, can't believe it when a man dies under suspicious circumstances. The probable homicide occurs shortly after an unpleasant encounter with a Freddie Mercury look-alike. Rachel and Marjorie find themselves absorbed by the man's untimely death and surrounded by suspicious characters with ample motive for killing the unpopular victim.

The Chief of Security wavers between involving Rachel in the investigation and keeping her away from it. Sarah, Rachel's best friend and cruise ship nurse, is keen to keep her out of harm's way, but it's a case of the irresistible force meets the immovable object when there's a mystery to be solved. Rachel is spurred on by the incorrigible Marjorie who is keen on interfering and testing her own sleuthing skills.

Chief Waverley and Sarah are fighting a losing battle and become more and more exasperated by Rachel's involvement. In addition to this, they both have problems of their own.

As the dead man appeared to have more enemies than friends, this mystery tests Rachel to the limit. She finds herself in danger as she tries to keep Lady Marjorie safe while solving the crime.

Join the crew and passengers aboard the Coral Queen for another exciting adventure at sea!

Man overboard!

I enjoy these cruise ship mysteries, even though cruising itself doesn't really call to me. I am becoming fond of the characters and love the sleuthing that goes on in each subsequent novel. In this episode we have Rachel Price, accompanied by her elderly friend, Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe. They are barely on board, when a body tumbles over the side. Rachel is a Police Constable by profession and would happily leave the problem to the security professionals on the ship. Marjorie, on the other hand, can't resist a challenge and encourages Rachel to start snooping around. There are some fun characters on this cruise, including the smarmy Freddie Mercury look-alike, who obviously has several enemies. Then there's an energetic stag party and a group of excitable female cheerleaders, which is bound to be a volatile combination. Rachel's friend, Sarah is travelling with them again and Chief Waverley, head of Security is responsible for solving the murder. I enjoyed the narration by Alex Lee, in very correct English and with such a soothing lilt that I fell asleep on the plane while listening and had to replay the last few chapters three times! I see that Dawn Brookes is releasing book 6 of this series in March and I hope that they will all be available on audio soon.

Killer Cruise

Killer Cruise by Dawn Brookes is such a good listen. I love the character of Rachel Prince, and so enjoy her adventures. This book is both a standalone listen and part of a series. Each cruise book has some unexpected twists, multiple suspects and motives. The way the murder is solved is very well done. Alex Lee is magical bringing the numerous characters to life with her voice. She gives them distinguishable voices and accents. I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Another great addition to the series

Who would have thought that so much unpleasantness could happen aboard a cruise ship. But seemingly the good ship the Coral Queen attracts those sorts of things. Luckily for them they have our heroine Pc Rachel Prince. I like how each book we learn more and more about Rachel and the firey old lady Marjorie and her old friend nurse Sarah. As with previous books there is a lot going on but the writing is done in such a way that it is easy to follow and never a dull moment. I love the covers for these books, simple yet colourful and attractive We welcome back our favourite narrator Alex Lee who once again does a spectacular job of telling this story so if you want a bid of cosy crime this winter try season, give this book and This series a go, it can work as a stand alone, with some minor references to previous books but it doesn’t effect the enjoyment of this latest book.

Entertaining read

Rachel Prince accompanied Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe on a cruise on the Coral Queen hoping for a relaxing holiday with her friend. Alas, it was not to be. The lead singer of the Queen Tribute act performing on the cruise is found in the sea, possibly murdered. Rachel is on the trail of the murderer when she is attacked, there are many suspects but it is intrepid Rachel who unmasks the culprit. An entertaining tale with familiar crew members and interesting shore visits along the way.

Ship shape book

This is the first book by this author that I have read/listened to but I quite enjoyed it. It is a nice clean mystery with out any really violence, well except the murder. This is book three and obviously a lot of the characters appear in the previous books but it was still enjoy able if you haven't read the other books because the write gives you some information without going into to much information that you lose the story you are listening to or giving away the plot for the others. I liked the characters and think I will check out the previous books to find out how Rachel and Marjorie meet. Rachel Prince is taking a much deserved holiday on the cruise ship the Coral Queen with her friend, Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe when they witness a man fall over board. He was the entertainment and his murder proves to be very entertaining for the two ladies. He was a member of a Queen tribute act and questioning the other band members is less than helpful. Then the band manager is nearly killed and Rachel comes to his aid, opening up the suspect list even more. With both men less than likeable they have there work cut out for them to find the killer and with the head of the cruise ship security happy to believe it was a drug induced accident they have to sort out the clues to get to the bottom of the murder before they are sunk. The narrator was very British sounding which took some getting use to, but she did a good good with all the different accents she had to use.

Okay I have all of the available stories completed and love them all. Suggestion...Just let Rachael accept the generous job offer. Then we can cruise the world over while Rachael finds trouble. I am quite serious. I feel like it would be such fun with Rachael and Sarah as roomies! This is such a great series!

A great narration of this cozy mystery!

I listened to the audio version of this book. The Rachel Prince Mystery books are light and entertaining. Every time Rachel goes on a cruise, someone is murdered and she can't leave her police background behind--she has to help solve the crime. In this one, her older travel companion is helping her sort through the multiple suspects in the murder of a member of a Queen tribute band. Her friends and the workers on the cruise make for a multi-faceted story. I think the narration by Alex Lee added a lot to the story, due to the multiple nationalities and accents of the crew members. She did a fantastic job! I was given a complimentary copy of this audio book. All thoughts are my own.
