Story
Killashandra Ree was drawn like a magnet to the song of crystal, and now it's erasing her memory. She knew the forgetfulness would be a byproduct of the singing, and she doesn't mind the little annoyances, like being unable to remember her address or the names of her colleagues. But she hadn't counted on the loneliness a person can feel when the heart still remembers what the mind has forgotten. Can the crystal that destroyed her memory somehow restore it?

Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

Summary
The exhilarating adventures of Anne McCaffrey's best selling Crystal Singer series continue with Killashandra, a story that mixes interplanetary political intrigue with passionate romance. In this installment, Killashandra Ree's crystal claim has been exhausted, forcing her to take a new assignment and leave her new lover back on their native Ballybran. She goes undercover on a distant, desolate planet, searching desperately for the crystal that will save her - and, quite possibly, the fate of the entire universe.

A top quality piece of writing ruined.
I have read all of Anne McCaffrey’s solo books from day one, until eye problems restricted the time that I was able to spend reading. Audible has been a godsend, until now, this reading is a travesty, cut to bits and that badly. The film editors would have called them jump cuts, chunks removed with no lead in or out.

A story of love in the midst of political rebellion
I have read this book countless times and was really happy to find an audible version. I love the way that McCaffrey engages her audience's emotions while introducing fabulous places, odd names and technology which she manages to imbue with a normality which means that we accept this science fiction seamlessly. Killashandra is a feisty female lead and I would certainly recommend this book to teenaged girls, especially those who like music and adventure stories. The only thing which mars this rendition is the rather brutal abridgement which spoils the gentle pace of the book and the galloping vocal performance which sometimes makes the listener feel that there were orders to keep the performance down to 2and a half hours and that the actor was racing to finish.

OLD AUDIO
Although I love this series of books by Anne McCaffrey, it was a bit disappointing to realise (after I had purchased them) that the audio was a little distorted with age and seemed very rushed. It did not completely diminish my love of these books but then again, I go back and re-read them every few years so they are very familiar which helped. This audio is for people who know the book only -- for first time listeners, buy something else and read the series for yourself...

Too short
I enjoyed this but it was abridged, I will not purchase the next in the series because that is abridged too. I cannot understand why this occurs as we spend the same amount to have a shortened book.
Also Audible place a series of books with some missing , I've never understood this practise that Audible insist on carrying out. I feel cheated when I've bought a couple of books in a series and then one is missing.

Would have been perfect if it was unabridged.
I love these books and the reading is very good, but the hack job that has been done to edit this down is really awful. I was surprised to find so much missing as the audio book was not listed as abridged. If you have not read thr Crystal Singer books you will love it, if you have, be warned there is a lot missing.

Good story but is abridged
Would you try another book from Anne McCaffrey and/or Adrienne Barbeau?
I like about anything by Anne McCaffrey and this is no exception.
What didn’t you like about Adrienne Barbeau’s performance?
This isn't about Adrienne's performance, which was quite good, but impacts the performance. The recording almost sounds like it was playing back through an old tinny AM radio.
What character would you cut from Killashandra?
All the characters are important.
Any additional comments?
Why is there no unabridged versions of the Crystal Singers books? Three hours touches the surface but there is so much more that is missing.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not in its abridged form.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Have it re-recorded in an unabridged format
What does Adrienne Barbeau bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Character and flaver to the characters

Great book; bad production.
This is one of the classic Anne McCaffery books, written at the height of her considerable powers and solidly within her self-professed strength of a romance set in a sci-fi universe. The best of the three Crystal Singer books.
However, I cannot fathom why the producers elected for an abridged version. I did not realize it was abridged (and moverover, SEVERElY abridged) until after I bought it, and I feel cheated.
