Summary

Child abuse true stories presents: Volume 1 of Kat Ward's sensational autobiography!

From the outside, there was no reason to suspect the family life of young schoolchild Keri was anything but unremarkable.

Two loving parents, a backdrop of 1960s Britain; life had provided for her, at least with the riches of modesty. Keri herself however, would often confound teachers with her erratic behaviour, which was at best sullen and withdrawn; at worst violently disruptive. When challenged, she would only exacerbate her growing reputation as a fantasist; weaving terrible tales about the "abuse" she was suffering at the hands of her very creators. But it was the much-celebrated age of innocence; the childhood of our modern culture. Big brother had not yet been born and Nanny was only looking out for her dearest, as opposed to the entire State. Who would take the word of child on such matters? After all, she was just a bad egg - wasn't she? Well, no. She wasn't.

She was indeed, for over a decade, the victim of an abuse so staggering that merely to read about it is enough to freeze even the thickest of blood. "Keri" is the story of what happens when truth is imprisoned in a little glass jar and buried deep within the Earth, condemned to a sentence of eternal silence. For truth may be repressed, but never suppressed. It will always find light eventually.

And in this gut-wrenching account of her early life, author Kat Ward takes the reader through every shade of darkness, whilst never allowing the candle of hope to fully extinguish, so as the truth may indeed find its rightful freedom.

Keri 1

I found this book very emotional and heartbreaking but it was al so very informative. I would recommend the book It was just a shame that yet again the book kept cutting off near the end of the last few chapters.
I really wish Audible would fix this problem once and for all.

A very in-depth and mostly sad story

This story is a true account of a young girls life of torment and abuse. Kerry gives detailed accounts of her life from a very early age up until the age of about 14 and how the people in authority who could have and whose job it was to protect her, once again as with many other accounts of many types of child abuse tells how she also was let down by the System in which we still live today. This book finishes as I mentioned at about the age of 14 so I am looking forward to hearing the next part of her life in the hope that somehow Justice is done to those that caused her harm and that she herself somehow manages to lead a happy and successful life and her bravery rewarded, although quite how this could occur I have absolutely no idea.

Uncomfortable but gripping

I very nearly didnt continue with this story after just a few short chapters as it was very difficult to hear the sexual abuse content, but by then the story had me captured and I felt there was no choice but to continue listening as often as and at every chance I could. What a brave girl, it hurts to know she spoke out and still wasnt helped by the authorities, I also experienced very similar.

Great book! Could not stop listening and made you go though all the emotions! Not too graphic which I liked and you really get angry at how so many people let her down.

Very thought provoking and emotional.........

I rarely bother with writing reviews but this true story had me rapt one minute, and wanting to shy away the next.

How people can be so utterly cruel, both mentally and physically, to each other is beyond my ken. It is almost unbelievable to someone brought up “normally” in a happy home that there are those out there who can do these things. The incestuous actions of a father have been heard of before, but condoned by the mother? While the father is not her biological parent, can it really excuse his behaviour? Then to beat her senseless out of his own guilt?

There are moments the reader will find they cannot imagine the absolute horrors this child was put through. I think it conjured up more sadness and raging anger in me than any other read has ever done. Not to be read by anyone with a weak stomach.

Let down by poor narration

A captivating story, shocking and enlightening in equal measures. Just a shame that the authenticity of the book is compromised by the numerous occasions where the narrator did not pronounce words correctly, or placed emphasis on the wrong syllable, displaying a lack of familiarity with either the context or the word itself.

Book 1 of 7

It was a great read, however it seemed to drag on at times but now I know why! I didn't realize that this was part of a series until the end. What's a bummer is that the rest of the books are not available here. It'd be nice to offer this info up front as to not waste people's time, I would have bought something else. I would buy the audible series if given the opportunity.

Warning- Part 1 of 7

Heartbreaking story and it ends with a cliffhanger. So disappointed to realize it's a 7 part series. I cannot do seven more books with this much emotion. Unfortunately, reviews of the other books say there's a lot of duplication and some mismatched information. I opted out.

Riveting!! Couldn't stop listening.....

This is one of the most riveting, shocking audiobook accounts of abuse I have ever read/listened to. Keri's astounding level of recall, her ability to tell her story, which flows flawlessly, and naturally, in vivid detail, is stunning. I was shocked, spellbound, livid and furious as I listened to her recount the inhumane, cruel treatment she endured from her mother and step father. At times I was brought to tears. Keri's endurance, resilience, her ability to love, and her honesty made me love her. Her Nana, who showed Keri what love is, renewed my faith in people and helped me heal from the shock and heartbreak of this account, by showing how love conquers hate and how good can overcome evil. I will never forget Keri or her story. Get this one. It will change you.

So Sad So True

Through out the book I often wondered what was fact and what was fiction. The book was written, performed and story line were excellent, I would stop while reading just to look at the author's page and comments from other readers. Its one of those too horrible to be true stories. With that said, that seems to be the way Keri felt whilst being abused by maniacs.

Amazing!!!

I have had this in my wish list for a while and was hesitant because of some of the reviews about too much detail in things that weren't relevant! I was pulled in from the first word and enthralled through the entire tragic story!! I found all the detail made you feel like you were right there!! I loved it!!
