About this listen

Kept is the story of two sisters, conventional Beth, and impetuous Tina. Secrets and lies simmer beneath the surface of their complicated relationship. It is a study of identity, guilt, loss, and redemption.

Laura is visiting her grandmother; the old photograph album is open on their knees. They are looking at a picture of Laura’s Christening. Everyone is there, her parents, grandparents, her aunt and uncle, caught in a ray of sunshine, squinting, looking for the camera. Laura squints back at the picture, trying to find out more than there is to see. What was it like back then? Was her mother ever that young? She taps the picture with her index finger before tracing the faces. There is a certain style and eagerness in their countenances that she doesn’t recognise now. When did it all start to go wrong?
