About this listen

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past.

Mia and Finn are busy turning a derelict house into their dream home when Mia unexpectedly falls pregnant. But just when they think the house is ready, Mia discovers a shocking message scored into a skirting board: I WILL SAVE THEM FROM THE ATTIC. Following the clue up into the eaves, the couple make a gruesome discovery: their home was once a real-life murder house, with the evidence still concealed within the four walls.

In the wake of their traumatic discovery, the baby arrives and Mia can’t shake her fixation with the monstrous crimes that happened right above them. Tormented by the terrible things she saw, she is desperate to dig into the past to find answers.

Secrecy shrouds the mystery of the attic, but when shards of a dark truth start to emerge, Mia realises the danger is terrifyingly present. She is prepared to do anything to protect her family—but will the previous tenants stop her from discovering their secret?

i was gripped from page 1. this is so different from other books i have listened to by this author and I loved it! his clever and intuitive writing grips you with every page turn. More twists than an alpine road. loved it!

gripping storyline with many twists

I did enjoy listening to this book. Narration was good. However I felt I had read it before, very similar to another book that was set in USA! As others have said it was a bit predictable, the twist were not so twisty that you couldn't see around the bend to what was coming!
I got kind of bored with the characters in the end! Not as good as many of John Matt's book.

Overlong

The book started well and was gripping. However within a few chapters the storyline which includes child murder themes became too traumatic and disturbing and I was not able to complete the book.
I wish I’d read more reviews from other listeners, as in hindsight I would not have purchased this title knowing the storyline.

I delayed purchasing this due to some mediocre reviews but I really enjoyed the story and concept and had finished it over two days. Will be a hit with fans of John Marrs like me and could easily introduce new listeners to his books.

Another easy and enjoyable listen from John Marrs

It was well written, had a good plot and a quality conclusion, but I found all the primary characters unlikeable, especially the main character, Mia. This made it difficult for me to care about the plight of characters.
The narrators did a good job reading the book.
