Summary

In this thrilling novel from bestselling author John Marrs, a young couple’s house hides terrible secrets—and not all of them are confined to the past.

Mia and Finn are busy turning a derelict house into their dream home when Mia unexpectedly falls pregnant. But just when they think the house is ready, Mia discovers a shocking message scored into a skirting board: I WILL SAVE THEM FROM THE ATTIC. Following the clue up into the eaves, the couple make a gruesome discovery: their home was once a real-life murder house, with the evidence still concealed within the four walls.

In the wake of their traumatic discovery, the baby arrives and Mia can’t shake her fixation with the monstrous crimes that happened right above them. Tormented by the terrible things she saw, she is desperate to dig into the past to find answers.

Secrecy shrouds the mystery of the attic, but when shards of a dark truth start to emerge, Mia realises the danger is terrifyingly present. She is prepared to do anything to protect her family—but will the previous tenants stop her from discovering their secret?

More twists than a corkscrew!

Although the subject matter is about as awful as it gets, the story kept me gripped, with twists I saw coming, and twists I didn’t. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite one of the voice actors hamming it up to level 11!

Dark and compelling but over long.

The narration was good, the plot was interesting but I didn’t really like any of the characters much and the end felt long and drawn out. I didn’t finish it.

Disappointing

Not believable at all. The twists were convoluted and the characters unlikeable. I usually enjoy John Marss’s style, but I found this book annoying and couldn’t wait to finish it.

Good but a bit dark

I’m all for dark books but it hits different when it’s about kids.
Good twists and well performed

Very dark and disturbing read

I wanted to love this book after the rave reviews I have heard about it. Well, I definitely didn't love it, but it's one of those books that reels you in and you just want to hear that final twist! Its very disturbing and far fetched in places, but Overall it's worth a listen.
Lady narration is ok, narrator for Finn is very annoying, especially when mimicking Mia!

Good story

The story was good, some slight twists but also fairly predictable in parts. Would listen to more by this author.

Mixed feelings

It was well written, had a good plot and a quality conclusion, but I found all the primary characters unlikeable, especially the main character, Mia. This made it difficult for me to care about the plight of characters.
The narrators did a good job reading the book.
